The Hunger Games 1 month, 1 week agoI’ve been to see the Hunger Games for a second time now, and it’s very interesting to reflect on the choices they made of adapting the book to film. Mostly, I was quite impressed at how much the movie remained in Katniss’s head, and the use of silence incorporated into the score. I think there were some things that definitely could have been…[Read more]
It’s interesting that you felt that the film stayed in Katniss’ head, because I felt the exact opposite. I felt that I had gone from being a contestant in the games, to being an observer of the games. As a film viewer, I was seeing things from the perspective of someone in the Capitol–picking favorites, rooting against others.
Oh, don’t get me wrong, it did not entirely stay in Katniss’s head by any stretch of the imagination. Doing so is impossible for a visual medium. But look at how much time was spent simply watching how things unfolded from Katniss’s point of view, without dialogue, but with kind of a silent narration in how the camera moved. It was a sort of a…[Read more]

The Hunger Games 1 month, 3 weeks agoI reviewed The Hunger Games movie as someone who had not read the book. Go here to read it. http://almostnerdy.com/tvmovies/an-untainted-review-of-the-hunger-games/ You will all probably like the website Almost Nerdy itself for obvious reasons.
Thanks for posting this! I’ve been wondering what someone who hasn’t read the books would think of the movie, and now I do!
I totally agree that the fear of the power of the Capitol wasn’t really established (good point about the Peacemakers, they definitely look a little too ridiculous for me to find them frightening). We see fear in…[Read more]
Thanks, I’m glad you liked it. As a writer myself I appreciated the author’s flair for the dramatic, but I could tell that it was all from the original piece and not from the movie. I honestly think that whoever produced this movie was a tad lazy.
other things they ruined
-the cornucopia. they called it a cornucopia bit it looked like a bunch of grey to me
-the hovercrafts. they weren’t as i’d imagined
-the fence. a simple detail they ruined
-the pin. they chose the pin on the US book cover which wasn’t fitting to the description. the real pin matches that on the UK cover.
-effie. she…[Read more]It’s definitely disappointing when they don’t adhere to the books on the small things that don’t really matter all that much. At the same time though, I’m glad there are a few things (like Caesar’s suit) that I get to keep in my imagination, ’cause sometimes it’s just better there.
After going through the movie vs. book thing with the…[Read more]
yea, i’m jast a *bit* too stubborn to do that. call me crazy
I, like John, think that movies should and can not really be books put directly into visual format. The story telling mediums are different and as such the stories they will tell, no matter what, will be different. Reading is something uniquely personal, no one can change what you read until you reflect upon it afterward and as such, your…[Read more]
I agree, I think I reread the books a bit too close to seeing the movie so I was being a bit picky about details. However, Once the film got going, I almost forgot that they were missing things out which, in my opinion is a sign of a good movie.
No matter how hard they try, the things that I thought were important (such as Madge) aren’t always…[Read more]

The Hunger Games 1 month, 3 weeks agoGah! I saw the movie last night with some Nerdfighters an I really, really liked it. I mean, obviously the book is superior, but I still enjoyed it a lot. And I wrote a song about it or something! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KECI_UoKCuA
