| Samuel | I don’t know if a thread similar to this has been created but I just wondered if anyone else is attempting to read a certain amount of books in 2012? Last year I attempted to read 50 but re-reading the entire HP series twice slowed me down a little. I am going to try again this year to read 50, so far I’m on 2. If anybody else is attempting a target then it’d be cool to update what number you’re on here. |

| SooL | I managed to reach 50 last year, but I tell you, I did find it hard at times. I think I’m gonna settle for 40 this year so it doesn’t start to feel like a chore. I’m always looking for reading suggestions though so don’t be surprised if you find me popping in on this thread from time to time… If you’re looking for reading suggestions, here’s a list of my 50 books from last year, all graded with 1-5 stars: http://depressedguyswithguitars.tumblr.com/Books |

| Rachel | I’ll be going for 50 books, I think! I’ve barely ready anything for the past few years, and I really miss it… It’s completely stemmed my creativity and I feel like I have no way of relaxing without it… I’ll be making a tumblr to keep track of it and post review as I go along. Good luck! |

| Haley | I did the 50 book challenge last year, and I think I am just going to try that again. I think I ended up with 55, but I’m not sure because I lost count when yourpants was hacked. There was also a thread in the old pants that had people counting the amount of pages they read in a year. I got 18 thousand last year, so I’m going to shoot for 20 thousand this year. |

| Wessel | I’m going to do it definitly |

| Ike | I’m not really setting a number, but I do have this little list I keep of books I want to read this year, by author/trilogy/genre. So for instance, I want to read 5 Terry Pratchett books, 5 original works from philosophers and the LotR-trilogie. I think the list is over 50 books long, so I guess I’m sort of doing that challenge :-p All I really know for sure is that I don’t want to have another year like last year, in which I read about 10-not-school-related books or something. I miss laying in bed and reading. |

| Melissa | I’m definitely doing it! I did it last year and got to 85. I wish I had doubled 50 and gotten to 100 but school just won’t allow it anymore. @Haley We should do that again, that was really fun. |
| January 4, 2012 at 9:53 pm #14525 | |
| Danielle (@schoolshmool) | I’m doing it this year! I failed miserably last year with just 35. |

| Clare Hagan | Over the summer, I went undeniably book crazy. I read 31 books. When school came, I just…didn’t…stop. In the first half of the school year I read 51 books. |

| Saraw | I’ve never tried to do a book challenge, but my friends are really into new year’s resolutions, so I think I’ll just use this! I’ll read 50 books in 2012! Starting with TFiOS on the 10th! : P |

| January 7, 2012 at 2:13 pm #20108 | |
| Marianne | Last year I tried reading 20 books, then changed it to 25, and then got to 31. And I don’t feel as if I’ve been reading much at all. This year I’m going for 50, which I hope will be more of a challenge. One book down so far. |
| January 7, 2012 at 2:27 pm #20119 | |
| Sydney | I’m definitely doing the 50 book challenge this year |
| January 7, 2012 at 7:17 pm #20542 | |
| Rebecca | I tried reading 200 last year (2011), but didn’t read that many in November (2) and December (4), so in the end I reached 142, 58 of which in English and the rest in Dutch. There are a few I read half of, and am still going to finish reading, but I count the books in the year/month that I finish them. I think I’m going to try to read 150 this year, with at least half in English. What can I say. I just read VERY quickly. |
| January 7, 2012 at 7:20 pm #20550 | |
| delilah (dee) | I set myself the goal of reading 100 books last year, but then went through a period of not reading for about 3 months, so I only managed 40. I’m going to try and read 50 this year, which is probably more of an obtainable goal |
| January 7, 2012 at 10:02 pm #21012 | |
| Melissa | Anyone doing the challenge can keep track of pages read with https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnQvU70oWu6HdHhSZGN3RlJURk9rSUw4RXE0WkwxOGc |

| Emma George | I set one for 50, but I know that will be very hard to reach since I am a very busy girl with dyslexia. I haven’t done it before, but I am around 20 pages away from finishing my first novel. It should be fun. |
| January 12, 2012 at 9:56 pm #28904 | |
| Faye | I tried last year but I think I only got to about 25… I think I might do it again this year, though. Why not? |
| January 12, 2012 at 10:00 pm #28908 | |
| Abby | I’m hoping for 500 this year. I read pretty fast, but last year I only got to 400 so I’m trying again. |

| Jo | I’m trying to read a 100 this year both fiction and non fiction. I’ve read 3 so far, nearly finished Looking For Alaska I was reading it in the car and I got to that part in the book and I started crying. So i’m hoping to finish that by tomorrow. I’ve also started on TFIOS, The Bell Jar (which i’ve read before but its one of my favourite books) and The Goblet of Fire. |
| January 14, 2012 at 7:31 pm #31018 | |
| Aditi | I’m going to try for at least 50 – I’ve never done this before, so we’ll see how it goes! I’m already at 5, the fifth one being TFiOS |

| Ellen Lee | Well, you see, I started a 50 Books in 365 Days challenge last year, but I only started it in March, so it’ll only end in March this year. Then I’ll re-start it again in March this year and end it in March 2013 and so on so forth! But yeah, I’m definitely doing a 50 Books in 365 Days challenge again this year. Last year, the challenge has sparked me on to read so many great books, and I just love how the number of books I’m reading has increased. I also have a blog for it, if you want to have a look-see (http://nearthebooks.tumblr.com/), but it’s just a big mish-mash of stuff, really |

| Emma Edwards | I’ve never thought about trying to set a number of books to read for the year, but that sounds like a really good idea. I think I could do 50…. I’ve only finished one so far this year, but I’ve gotten half way through like five. |
| January 17, 2012 at 7:15 am #35088 | |
| Kayla | Only 50? I hit (around) 140 last year. Hmm. Maybe my goal for 2012 will be to hit 150. Good luck, everyone. Congrats on having more busy lives than me. |
| January 20, 2012 at 1:31 am #37377 | |
| Madison Carver | Wow, so people must be able to read incredibly fast. A book a day, that is insane. I think I want to do this too. I’m at 3 so far. |
| January 20, 2012 at 7:12 pm #37732 | |
| James Milne | I like the idea of this but not sure how far I will get but I am now going to start keeping track. I’m on 2 so far this year and I am halfway through Study in Scarlett (Sherlock Holmes). The idea is a book a week with two weeks off. I’m already behind schedule but I will try. |
| January 25, 2012 at 3:02 am #41977 | |
| Jordan | I’ve read about 9 books so far, and I’m going ot make that 10 by February. |

| Lucy | I managed to read 75 last year, so I thought I’d aim for 100 in 2012 but I’m not sure how realistic that is. I’ve read 7 books so far though |
| January 31, 2012 at 7:33 pm #46619 | |
| Judith | 50 book challenge accepted! I have read 6 so far |
| January 31, 2012 at 7:46 pm #46621 | |
| Rozzie Pearson | I’ve already read4 |
| February 15, 2012 at 6:37 pm #55017 | |
| SweeneySays | I did it last year and I’m doing it again this year… is anyone here on Goodreads? That’s what I use to review / keep track. It’s got a handy little thing on the side that tells me how many books I’m at and what percentage of the way to my target I am. Right now I have read 13/50 and am 26% of the way there…and apparently “7 books (14%) ahead of schedule” (I’m http://www.goodreads.com/wanderlust — it’d be great to have some nerdfighter book friends!)

| Kiar | I’ve never kept track before. So far this year I’ve read… let’s see… about 6 books. So if this is the 8th week of the year, that means, if the pattern holds, I read an average of .75 books per week. Seeing as there are 52 weeks in a year, I read an average of 39 novels. Now, I know I read more frequently during the summer, so this average is probably a bit higher. I guess it wouldn’t be a stretch that I read about 50 books a year. Maybe I’ll write them all down this year, just to see how accurate this calculation was. Just for fun: if I read 40 books a year, and I am 20 years old (assuming I did not read for the first 5 years of my life) I’ve read somewhere around 800 books for leisure. That seems really small. Of course, in this count I am excluding books I have read for school – lets say I read about 3 class books per semester, for the past 15 years. That brings the running total up to not quite 900. This means that, by the time I am 50, I will have read some 2670 books. Now that’s more like it. |
| February 24, 2012 at 4:57 pm #58338 | |
| robert | Reading book 4 (I think). I wish I’d found this earlier cos’ it’s gonna be hard! |
| February 24, 2012 at 5:40 pm #58345 | |
| Sarah | I am on book 19. From now untill the end of the school year my goal is 10 books a month. I wont be able to read quite as much when I hae no access to the school library, but hopefully, I will still beable to read quite a bit. Either way, I am pretty sure I will be reading well over fifty. |
| February 25, 2012 at 2:16 am #58624 | |
| Jacob | I’m going to try and do this this year. So far I’ve finished five books.

| Megan | I’m defentaly doing this. I’m on 12. |
| April 5, 2012 at 4:33 am #75849 | |
| Lisa | I use goodreads. I’m going to try for 100. I will fail horribly, but it’s still fun to aim for something so high. I’ve read six. |
| April 6, 2012 at 5:15 am #76132 | |
| Chelsey | I would really love to try this. i usually read a ton of books anyway, but with my difficult classes I might not make it. I think I’ll try though. |
| April 7, 2012 at 8:20 pm #76584 | |
| Emily | Hm, I’m on…at least 5. Maybe 6. I’m trying my hand at sci-fi, starting with The Master, Isaac Asimov himself, so it may be a while before I finish. |
