| Jaan | Death of a Bluebird
New breeds of animal stalk the high rise buildings and ground as most zoo animals have escaped and mated making strange new breeds possible like cehigers which are tigers and cheetahs crossed. Rivers and forests now grow were streets used to be. Some city’s have completely reverted to the swaps, desserts or forests that they were a thousand years ago. Humans have reverted back into tribal entities most living in the city’s of the past. These are normally led by two elders one a women and one man. Mostly they are hunter gatherer’s but some people have settled down and started a basic agrarian society. Only one main thing connects all the tribes religion in “The Ones That Came Before” or “Lost Ones” who are revered as gods for they’re monuments, tools and writing (which they cant read). Main religious sites are Stone Mountain, Mount Rushmore and the unfinished Crazy Horse Memorial which all have high priests who tend . Most of the tools are made of stone or reused iron or copper. Dogs, pigs, horses and cattle are most still domesticated though the larger present live in the wild and are undomesticated. Cats have become completely wild and dangerous. In this world our story begins.

| Jaan | OOC: Good no we are closed and no accepting anymore charecters let us begin. Ulren crashed through the brush and fell to his knees. He had run ten miles full pelt once he had heard seen the smoke. But he was too late. There was nothing left he looked everywhere. Only some charred bodies and depressions were the tents used to be. Tears started coming but he forced them back. He punched the ground in front of the remains of his old tent. They had burned everything… Even in the small wars the tribe had had over the years no one had ever even though of burning villages down. He remained motionless until he heard a crack of a twig and human face peered at him from the forests edge. |
| January 12, 2012 at 10:59 pm #29010 | |
| lookpenguins | Shaska moved toward the sound of a man crashing through the brush and the smell of smoke. Her curiosity was piqued, and it had been too long since she had been in human company. A sense of unease stirred in her stomach, however, as she peered into a clearing, where it appeared a tribe had once been. A tall, attractive man who she assumed to be a tracker crouched near the center of the clearing, anguish in his eyes. |
| January 12, 2012 at 11:05 pm #29023 | |
| Jaan | “DEAD!!!” Ulren roared. “THEY’RE ALL DEAD!!! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM!!! AAAAAHHAHHAHHAHHAH!” The roar seemed to go on and on like a wounded animal calling in a tight corner. But suddenly it broke and Ulren was simply crying still sitting in the middle of a tent that might have once been hes own. |
| January 12, 2012 at 11:08 pm #29030 | |
| lookpenguins | Gingerly, Shaska steps from the cover of the forest. She notes the charred leaves and the crackle of the crisped tents under foot. She tries not to look at the ground too carefully, scared of what she might see. The man’s outburst had scared her, but it was her duty as a Shaman to help those around her. She stops a foot or so away from the man, and she can see his eyes are green and he has strange facial hair. “Man. Are you hurt?” She asks, worried that he is not just emotionally wounded. She kneels so they are eye to eye. |
| January 12, 2012 at 11:17 pm #29039 | |
| Jaan | “Me… hurt?…” Ulren seemed to consider this for a moment. But hes mind latched on to another wondering thread of thought.”You have to bury these people so they’re souls can become blue birds. Preform the rights I will help.” He rose in one swift movement as if operated by clockwork not the brain. He took picked up a shovel made of strong bone(iron as we would call it) It was slightly bent but still quite useful he began to dig like a robot. |
| January 12, 2012 at 11:22 pm #29046 | |
| lookpenguins | She steps back, concerned by his sudden movement. Shaska looks around, and her expression becomes confused. “Are you…sure you are okay? There are very few remains that I can see, and this is a big village. You will dig the graves all by yourself?” She leans forward, her tangled hair falling in her eyes. |
| January 12, 2012 at 11:26 pm #29051 | |
| Jaan | “I dig you say the words the word of the lost ones. Words are important mother always said.” Said digging in some softer ground he had dug quickly and blisters had come to his fingers but he dident mind. now was not the time to think but a time to act. He gently laid a charred corpse inside the grave and looked at the shaman expectantly. OOC: Improvise with the words. |
| January 12, 2012 at 11:32 pm #29056 | |
| lookpenguins | Shaska nods, realizing this is important to the seeming mad man. She gathers herself and opens her book, the scratches making no sense, as usual, but it still helps her collect her thoughts and remember the rights. “Oh, Lost Ones, who built the world as she recitse the words of the Lost Ones, She watches the man dig fervently and begin to recover the charred bodies. Shaska is upset, and angry, and curious to know who committed these atrocities.
|
| January 12, 2012 at 11:38 pm #29065 | |
| Jaan | OOC: Perfect! Finnaly all the graves were dug and suddenly a light seemed to light up behind Ulrens eyes. Ulren turned and sighed. “Now that is done…” The sentence implied that this was only the begging of a chain of things that needed to be “done” “I am Ulren Son of Wend I heard that you were the new shaman but I never got to know your name.”
|
| January 12, 2012 at 11:49 pm #29077 | |
| lookpenguins | She watches as the light fades away, and a smile, sad smile turns her lips for a moment, until Ulren speaks. The implication there is more to be done worries her slightly, but since they seem to be the only people remaining, she figures it couldn’t hurt to stick around and help the guy out. “Ah, yes. News must travel fast. I only just returned from my spirit walk. I am Shaska, Daughter of Ziraphel. I am the newest and possibly the last shaman. My totem is the lemurfox.” Shaska snaps her fingers, and the aforementioned animal slinks out of the woods. It has a fox face and thick red fur, but a long prehensile lemur tail and nimble fingers. It hops onto her shoulder and purs. |
| January 13, 2012 at 12:01 am #29089 | |
| Jaan | “I will light a fire and I will wait until morning. Maybe some hunters were out when this happened or gatherers… Then I will start to track those who did this…” It quite defenetly wasn’t a order but the sentence implied that if the shaman though differently then Ulric wouldn’t much care. He took out some flint and gathered some dry wood the fire crackled nicely. Ulric sat down and looked over to Shaska. “Have you been to the great temples to the lost ones?” |
| January 13, 2012 at 12:06 am #29093 | |
| lookpenguins | “If it is not much bother to you, can I stay with you? I would like to find who did this as well. And my services might come in handy to you.” Shaska says, and sits by the fire. The lemurfox looks at it curiously, but Shaska whistled and the beast returns to her side. “Yes, I am actually on my way from one to another. It is part of my duty as a Shaman to check on and take care of the many temples. The last one was in the eastern islands, in the city of mountains. It is where I officially became a Shaman. But I guess my duties can wait.” |
| January 13, 2012 at 12:15 am #29098 | |
| Jaan | “What did they look like?” Ulric had seen mountains of course but the holy places were said to be the most holy of creation of The Lost Ones. And the last shaman never much talked to anyone except at weddings, funerals and when he asked one young women form the village in the dry season to help make it rain. The women dident always come back. He shivered in the warmth of the fire. |
| January 13, 2012 at 12:21 am #29104 | |
| lookpenguins | Shaska pulls a bit of dried meat from her side bag and holds it near the fire to warm it up, and offers some to the tracker. The sun is going down, and strange shadows cross the clearing. She settles into her seat, her knees pulled up to her chin, the lemurfox nesting in her hair. “The mountains are strange, and beautiful in a way too. climbing them is very difficult – the paths are worn and broken, and many wild creatures inhabit them. There are signs of the Lost Ones everywhere. At the very top is a sacred altar made by the previous Shamans. I can’t tell you too much of course, I was sworn to secrecy, but the Shaman master lives on the mountain, and he is the one who watches but does not lay a hand in the affairs of the tribes. He is incredibly wise.” ((ooc- I don’t know if the ‘make it rain’ double entendre was intentional, but it sure is hilarious.)) |
| January 13, 2012 at 12:32 am #29119 | |
| Jaan | OOC: Awesome some noticed sometimes my double entendres just pass over peoples heads! Ulric took out a squala(a squirrel crossed with a koala) it had caught itself into one of huis trpas he had skinned it and cleaned the meat. He put it on a spit over the fire “My father allways told me that in the west there was a great long lake but to get to it one had to cross the desert of the… others. Is that ture.” OOC: The others are like the deamons they do have a name but it is never said out loud. Also I gotta go be back later. |
| January 13, 2012 at 12:38 am #29131 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | Jal turns to head back to the tribe after an unsuccessful day of hunting, only catching a few small mammals and a thrush-wing. It wasn’t good enough. He notices a thin spiral of smoke coming from that direction. “No!” he yells as he begins to sprint back to the camp. Upon reaching the edge of the forest, Jal peers through the foliage to see if he can glimpse whoever did this to his home. He sees the tracker of the tribe and a girl he does not recognize. The situation seems safe enough, but Jal stays alert in case of an ambush. “Tracker,” he calls as he steps into the clearing. “What has happened here? And who is that trespasser you are sitting with?” he glares at the girl. She should not be here. This was his tribe. |
| January 13, 2012 at 12:39 am #29132 | |
| lookpenguins | ooc: i specialize in noticing double entendres in things that aren’t actually double entendres so. YAY. also okay, see you later. Shaska leaned forward, biting at the tough dried meat. She thought for a moment. “From the top of the mountain I could see very far in all directions. There was a great desert to the west, but I couldn’t see anything past it. If the Shaman tales are to be believed however, there is a great civilization there beyond all we can imagine. The others are the guardians of that realm.” Shaska smiles as the lemurfox, who she decides to name Torq, tugs on a lock of her hair. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees a movement in the woods. |
| January 13, 2012 at 1:35 am #29194 | |
| Sam | Chook walked into camp with the basket of berries and Gine on her back. When she saw the camp she started to cry. “No no nothing left nothing.” Gine started to bawl Chook picked him up and gave him a few berries and rocked him back and forth back and forth in time to her sobs. |
| January 13, 2012 at 1:37 am #29196 | |
| lookpenguins | Shaska sees a young woman with a baby on her back enter the camp. the baby starts crying, and Shaksa jumps up and runs to them, hoping she can help. She nears the woman and nods respectfully, and smiles at the baby. |
| January 13, 2012 at 1:44 am #29202 | |
| Sam | Chook looked at the woman, “who are you. You are not one of us did you do this? Sam said in a harsh toan DID YOU?”
|
| January 13, 2012 at 1:51 am #29216 | |
| lookpenguins | Shaska steps back, convinced that everyone from this village is insane, until she remembers their homes HAVE just been destroyed. “No, I am merely stopped here for now. I am a shaman, on a spirit walk. I can assure you I did not do this, but I am very invested in finding out who did. I promised the tracker, Ulren, to help find the murderers.” Shaska holds her hands open in a universal gesture of peace. She is grateful Torq has run off somewhere, and is unseen by the distraught woman. |
| January 13, 2012 at 1:55 am #29222 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | Jal looks at the shaman woman before walking over to Chooka and Gine. He stood next to them defensively and crossed his arms in defience. “Shaman. How can we trust you? Ulren is not here to defend your claims.” |
| January 13, 2012 at 1:57 am #29225 | |
| Sam | Chook simply nodded. “His father long dead in a senseless fight.” Chook added. “Hold him. I need to see if we can scavenge anything” Chook handed the baby to the woman along with berries. “He likes those you can have some as well.” |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:00 am #29231 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | Jal growls. How can they trust this woman so quickly? She’s a trespasser; she could’ve burned their camp! He sat down angrily on a log and started skinning his catches from the hunt, keeping an eye on the shaman woman all the while. |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:00 am #29232 | |
| lookpenguins | Shaska wordlessly takes Gine and turns to the suspicious hunter as Chook goes off to look around the charred village. “I am a Shaman of the Highest mountain. I have pledged under the Master Shaman Corgile and I carry a book of the Lost Ones. Just this night i performed the rights as Ulren buried the remains. You can see the evidence of this that way” she gestures towards the area of turned dirt. “Besides, If I was responsible, I wouldn’t still be here.” |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:07 am #29243 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | Jal blows air through his nose and takes a pause in plucking the thrush-wing. “I trust you for now, Shaman, but I will be watching you with great care.” He jams the end of his flint knife into the log and holds out his hand. “I am Jal son of Gerun.” |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:14 am #29255 | |
| lookpenguins | Shaska sighs in relief as he puts away the knife, and shifts the baby before reaching out to shake his hand. “I am Shaska, Daughter of Ziraphel. It is nice to meet you, Jal.” |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:18 am #29263 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | Jal grunts and returns to his work. “What is a shaman of the high mountains doing out here? You must have better things to do than perform rites for the dead of my tribe.” Jal snarls in anger at whoever performed this atrocity. He vowed that he would find whoever did this and tear them limb from limb. He would get his revenge. |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:20 am #29267 | |
| Aspyn Pierce | Mercoos had been hiding in the near by brush. Ie had always been the kind to sit back and watch others fight. Human thought process interested him. As did ruins and the illegible. Even with many interest, hos heart still belonged to the hunt. |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:23 am #29269 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | Jal heard a slight rustle behind him and whipped around. “Reveal yourself!” he shouted, standing and weilding his knife. |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:31 am #29287 | |
| lookpenguins | Shaska was about to respond to the hunter’s angry murmur with a witty remark, but something moved in the woods, and Jal whipped around, shouting towards the trees. Shaska snapped her fingers, and Torq raced towards her, hopping onto her shoulder and sniffing at the baby. |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:33 am #29293 | |
| Aspyn Pierce | Crap! They had found him, so he had better come out. “I was just watching. I don’t have any weapons.” And that was true, because being the idiot he was, he left them at home. |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:34 am #29295 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | “You heard that too, Shaman?” Jal turned around and cocked his at the creature sitting on Shaska’s shoulder. “What is that? I’ve never seen one of them in our woods.” |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:35 am #29297 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | Jal turned back to the intruder. It was another hunter, one of his tribe. He relaxed only slightly. “You. Why did you not join us when you saw that our tribe had been killed?” |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:38 am #29302 | |
| lookpenguins | Shaska nodded at the new arrival, but was too tired to meet any more insane villagers. “Jal, I’m going to put the baby to bed and try to get some sleep myself. I think Ulren wanted to leave in search of the murderers tomorrow, and I need my rest. Let Chook know where the baby is when she comes back.” With that, the Shaman bowed slightly, and turned to the fire, where she stretched out on a soft patch of ground and let the baby curl up in her traveling cloak. ooc: I have to go for tonight. I have science fair that’s due tomorrow! D: |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:41 am #29311 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | OOC: Good luck on your project! We’ll see you soon hopefully. |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:43 am #29315 | |
| lookpenguins | ooc: hopefully! Have fun! |
| January 13, 2012 at 2:57 am #29350 | |
| Jaan | Ulren rose after some minutes and stretched. The hunter’s had returned and so had the gatherer. He had expected this. “Lets sleep come morning I can track the movements of those who burned the village.” |
| January 13, 2012 at 3:04 am #29357 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | Jal looked at the other hunter before grunting and lying down. “The tracker Ulren is right. We should all get some sleep.” He gripped his knife tightly and set it on the ground, covering it with his jerkin. “I expect we will rise early tomorrow?” The question was directed at Ulren. |
| January 13, 2012 at 3:11 am #29372 | |
| Jaan | “First light.” Said Ulrick nodding and sitting down he looked up at Jal questiongly. But nodded and continued looking at the fire. |
| January 13, 2012 at 3:15 am #29378 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | Jal lay his head on his jerkin and closed his eyes. “Wake me when it is time to leave.” He was determined to make it as far as possible after the culprits before they had to stop again. He needed his rest. |
| January 13, 2012 at 3:18 am #29384 | |
| Laura Bednarczyk | OOC: I’m going to bed soon, so I have to leave. I’ll be back tomorrow. |
