| January 15, 2012 at 11:14 pm #32943 | |
| Naomi | ((OOC: Yes, only district 4 is full and we have 8 tributes, meaning we’ll start after 3 more join, if that’s all right with everyone. And I’ll leave the decision about doing the other things up to you guys, since I am fine with it either way. As for the environment, I’ll decide it and have one large post describing the whole area right before the games begin.)) |

| Naomi | ((Not at all. I’m gonna start the rp now.)) “Kaz, if you would just put this on. You need to look nice for the reaping.” Kaz sighed, looking at the green monstrosity of a dress dangling from her mother’s hand. They had the same argument every year. She still didn’t see the reason to wear it for the Reaping. It’s not as if it actually mattered. But she knew that, like every year in the past, she would end up being forced into it before they left. Grumbling, she snatched the dress from her mom and traded her usual sweater and jeans for it. After her parents were ready, Kaz followed them to the center of the district, where the Reaping took place. She allowed herself to be herded into the girls’ area, searching the boys for a particular face. There, bobbing through the bodies, a little blond head was seen. She followed it down to see Shelbourne’s grinning face. Once they had established eye contact, they continued to keep it and make faces as the Reaping began. She didn’t even notice when the picking of the names was happening. Shelbourne’s face suddenly went white, and his mouth dropped open. Before Kaz could ask what it was, some girl tapped her on the shoulder. “Kaz Ezro, right? You’re a tribute.” |
| January 28, 2012 at 8:12 pm #44562 | |
| Kyle | ((I hope it’s not a problem to type in first person.)) “Mason, MASON!” My sister, Tammy, yelled. Well, she’s not exactly my sister, more like almost-step-sister. I had been laying in the cotton fields near my house, it was where I went to relax. I quickly got up and trotted over to her. “Relax, Tam. It’s not like we’ve ever been late before.” I said, as we walked home. We lived in one half of a small factory that manufactures denim, which is also where my father and I worked. I went to my room, and put on my ‘fancy’ jeans and a jade green button down shirt. “Come on Mason, our family left, like, ten minutes ago.” Tammy said. I finished styling my hair and we left. Our house was near the outskirts of district 8, so the trip to the town square took a while. When we arrived (on time, I might add), we went off to our respective areas. I stood by my almost-step-brother, Victor, and scanned the other boys for my little almost-step-brother, Devin. This was his first year possibly being a tribute, so he was nervous. I gave him a reassuring look before the names were picked. “Kaz Erzo.” Our escort said. There was a pause before a tall girl around my age walked up to the stage. “And next, the boy tribute.” She calmly reached into the box and pulled out a slip of paper. “Devin Chesret!” She called. My eyes widened, and I turned to look at Victor. His face had gone pale, and he started shaking violently. I knew there was only one thing I could do. “I volunteer!” |
| January 28, 2012 at 8:51 pm #44605 | |
| Naomi | Kaz had walked up to stage in a trance-like state. The only thought that went through her head was “God dammit, I just had to be wearing this stupid dress today.” Shelbourne looked like he wanted to shout out, but a little shake from her head stopped the words before they left his mouth. It wasn’t as if he could do anything. She stood straight and tall, trying not to let her inner shock show. The escort dug around in the boy’s box, pulling out a name that was unfamiliar to Kaz. But before he could leave the boys’ area, someone else shouted out. A volunteer. Her eyes searched out the boy pushing his way to the front. This one she knew, though barely. Kaz had seen him around before, since they were close in age. His name started with an M, or maybe and N. She had never paid enough attention to learn it. |

| Kyle | They could have at least made a path for me to go through. Actually, no, I’m glad they didn’t. The cameras were going to get a good enough view of my face soon enough. These people around me were probably my last sense of privacy before the games. I pushed my way through the people, some who didn’t know me, some who did, but all were relieved to not have been called up themselves. I stepped quietly up onto the stage, trying to suppress both my anger and tears. I shot a glance at the other tribute. I’ve seen her around, but we didn’t really know each other. I think she might have been one of the many girls Victor was lusting after, but its not like he had a chance. Our escort pranced over to us, her squirrel tail flapping behind her. She congratulated us, and made us shake hands. I bet Kaz noticed that my hands were trembling, I know hers were as well. Then our escort gave us the trademark “And may the odds always be in your favor” before dragging us to the town hall. |
| January 29, 2012 at 5:53 pm #45184 | |
| Naomi | Oh how cute. Kaz thought. We get to shake hands like we’re best little friends before we’re put in an arena where we might possibly be saved from the trouble of biting out each other’s throats by the fact that other people might get there first. Her hands shook a little as she took his hand. She told her body to cut it out, but trying to stop it made only made it worse. Kaz allowed herself to be brought into the town hall, where she was separated from the other tribute as they were shown the rooms in which they could say good bye to loved ones. She sat down in a chair, head resting drearily on her hand. She was expecting two visits. Only one was actually wanted. |

| Kyle | ((My apologies for stopping posting there)) I walked to the town hall with pride, making sure to let the peacekeeper who was escorting us know that they don’t have full control over me. We were led into separate rooms, where I waited on the plain white couch for my first visitor. “Mason, you are an idiot.” Victor said, walking to me. He was carrying Devin on his shoulders. |
| February 6, 2012 at 9:49 pm #49893 | |
| Naomi | ((No problem, Sarah, the same actually goes for me as well. On nights that I have play practice, which is most, I won’t be able to post anything. Also, sorry for the length of this post.)) Kaz’s parents came in first. They hugged and squeezed her, telling her how proud they were and how lucky she was to honor the district. She tried to keep her tongue, but you know what? It didn’t even matter if she did. She could say whatever she wanted, because she was going to die and she was never going to feel the effect of her words. So she pushed them away roughly. “Are you two *bleep*ing crazy? I am you god-damned daughter. Your only god-damned child. And now I’m gonna go out and die, and you think that’s honorable. Well get this through your skulls. There is no honor in some crazy bull*bleep* like that. So you can *bleep* off.” Kaz turned her back as they silently left. The next visitor was Shelebourne. He didn’t speak at first, instead just running to embrace her tightly. She buried her face in his hair, letting the tears finally come out. “I don’t wanna be here without you.” He sniffled, “It’ll never be the same.” A wave of determination took her. “You won’t be, not for long. I’m gonna come back. I’m gonna do terrible, terrible stuff, but I’m comin home. Just for you.” He nodded, saying nothing. A peacekeeper came in, telling him to leave. “Wait, just a sec!” He said, ripping at a button on his shirt. It was pretty, aluminum with a tree engraved on it. Shelby pulled out a thread from the shirt and looped it through the button before tying it around her neck. “Yanno. For the arena.” He gave her one last hug, and left. |

| Marauder Julia | Trill stood among the hundreds of other District 3 tributes, frustrated. She hated wearing dresses. Nigel, who was standing next to her with a worried look on his face, got to wear semi-normal clothes. Why couldn’t she? She pushed her goggles down over her eyes as she always did when she tried to concentrate. Trill stared at the District 3 escort, a silly woman with multicolored skin like a rainbow. She knew mental telepathy was impossible, but she tried as best as she could to project a thought into her head. “Not Nigel, he couldn’t handle it, please don’t pick him…” She mouthed the words under her breath desperately. He brother, a year older than her, had been in a state of shock and semi insanity for two months after Azel died in the arena. Trill concentrated so hard on this hope that she forgot to wish for herself. The escort reached into the bowl containing the girl names, and swirled her hand around. Momentarily Trill broke her concentration, seeing as out of the corner of her eye she had seen a flash of light reflecting on a building. At this moment, the name was called. Trill’s attention snapped back to the escort, wondering who she had called. She looked over to Nigel and saw his pale face, eyes wide and staring at her with his mouth hanging open. Looking around, Trill noticed that multiple others were staring at her as well. Oh. It was her. In a state of dull shock, Trill walked to the stage. She heard a sigh of sadness from many in the crowd, as they remembered the loss of her brother a few years before. And now her. Trill stood on the stage as the escort spoke again, this time with the boy’s name. She shook his hand apathetically, thinking of nothing but how glad she was that Nigel had not been picked. Then she remembered. “Oh. I’m going to die…” she mouthed, staring at the floor. She didn’t want to look out into the audience and meet Nigel’s horrified gaze. She didn’t think she could stand it.

| Kyle | After Victor and Devin left, I got visits from Tammy, our parents, and lastly Pegas, who worked in the fields with me. “That was quite noble, what you did today.” He said, adjusting the glasses on his nose. Even though his parents were rich, Pegas had essentially disregarded their lifestyle. He worked in the fields like the poorest of us, farming his share of cotton. He hated it when his parents bought him gifts, having a predilection for a simpler life. “Well, I’m sure you would have done the same thing.” I said. He sat down next to me on the white couch. “Probably not,” he rebutted, “Seeing as I absolutely despise any killing of people. In fact,” He looked over his shoulder to make sure nobody was listening, “I haven’t even watched the Games. I watch the interviews and stuff, but I can’t stand watching the fights.” He paused for a moment before continuing, “Anyways, I wanted to give you this.” He handed me a beautiful, carved turtle. It was attached to a band of black leather, designed to go around my wrist as a bracelet. “It’s… It’s amazing.” I said, astounded at what lay in my hand. Leaning in to whisper once again, he said “The wood is a special poisonous birch, so use it well.” Then, as the peacekeeper came in to tell him to leave, he planted a kiss on my lips. He turned around and walked out, leaving me sitting astounded behind. |

| Marauder Julia | In the Justice Building, Sebastian sat alone, waiting silently for visitors to arrive. First was his parents. They did the normal, my-little-baby-is-going-to-die sobbing. Sebastian sat apathetically as they cried. He hated to see his parents like this. He just wanted it to be over. Finally, after words of encouragement and farewell, they left, and then Nigel came in. Nigel’s face was still pale as he sat across from his brother. “Nigel. Bro. It’s okay.” “It’s not okay Sebastian! First Azel, now you, I can’t… I can’t stand…” His brother broke into tears. Sebastian stood up and pulled him into a hug. “I’m going to come back for you, bro. It’ll be alright.” This went on for a while. Nigel was a year older, but it often felt to Sebastian that he was a few years younger. Finally, Nigel stopped crying and stared at him seriously. “You have to get them to let you wear the goggles. Say they’re a district token or something.” “If I die in there, the last bit of him dies too Nigel. I get it.” The brothers hugged one last time, and then Nigel left. Sebastian sat in the chair for a few minutes, wondering if there was anyone else. But it didn’t seem that way. Finally the escort came in and guided him onto the train. He leaned out the window and took one last look at the district he knew so well. Then it was gone. |
