| Abrham | So if you don;t know, there is a myth that explains that 8 spiders crawl into your mouth at night every year. I went onto Snopes.com (a place to find myths) and sure enough the myth about the spiders was on the site. I scrolled down and saw that the myth was created by a woman named Lisa Holst in 1993. Around this time, emails showing “facts” (which were myths) were being forwarded all over the place. Lisa wrote an article in PC Professional called “Reading is Believing” explaining how people believed things very gullibly and created her own list of myths. One of them was the spider myth. Curious as to what other myths she created, I searched for her name and nothing showed up. Well not nothing, but only a copy and paste version of the snopes article. Doing even more investigation, I found a website called eightspiders.com which is a better resource. There are even more people who want to know who this woman is. Who is this woman?!?!?!?! Here’s a video by youtube.com/CGPGrey who brought this to my attention. |

| Ana | I don’t know when the eight-spiders-a-year thing was originally posted on snopes.com because the site has for some reason been excluded from the Wayback Machine . However, the earliest mentions I (Google) found of Lisa Holst are this one (guardian) and this one (yahoo answers), both from 2002, both citing snopes.com as their source. Also, PC Professional, the magazine in which her article was presumably published, has never existed. |
