| Jacob Derwin | Hello my fellow musical Nerdfighters! I know I can’t be the only one around here that writes, plays, and performs music and such, so let us converse! Personally, I play percussion, piano, and I’m learning guitar, and I sing |
| January 2, 2012 at 9:19 pm #5508 | |
| Rowena | I play guitar and dabble in ukulele and mandolin. I attempt to sing, it doesn’t mean I can though! I’ve been working on writing my own stuff recently, it’s kind of an acoustic/folky kind of thing |
| January 2, 2012 at 9:20 pm #5521 | |
| Matt | I play the guitar. Somewhat amaturishly. I like finger-picking. It sounds nice. I would like to be able to sing, but I’m terrible at it so I generally don’t. |
| January 2, 2012 at 9:31 pm #5639 | |
| Mhairi | Hello, play Flute, Piano, Voice, Ukulele and a bunch of really easy instruments – Melodica, Kazoo, Maracas. This year I’m picking up Guitar and Violin. Going to do more songwriting as well. |
| January 2, 2012 at 9:33 pm #5664 | |
| Jamie Sparkes | I play guitar. Quite a lot. I’ve been playing for 4 yearsish, and still love it as much as I did the first time I played. That’s all I do, really. I can play a little Ukulele and Banjo, but I have no interest in playing them really. |
| January 2, 2012 at 9:33 pm #5667 | |
| Joshua | I’ve been classically trained in guitar, and I like playing jazz too. I can sort of play bass, but only the very basics. I haven’t written anything yet but I plan too sooner or later. |
| January 2, 2012 at 9:35 pm #5682 | |
| Samuel | Hey! I play guitar, piano, ukulele, bass and drums and plan to learn a few more instruments this year. I also sing over my stuff but I don’t claim to be the greatest singer or anything. I write my own stuff. Here is something I did recentlyish – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9t976ji3uwg Also, I’m always up for online collaborations. |
| January 2, 2012 at 9:35 pm #5685 | |
| James | I play a little piano – if you’d like to see a bit – here’s a really old video of me playing – if you want some moar badger me on twitter, and I might think about it |

| Emily Davis | Hello! I am a singer, and also play the piano and the ukulele (albeit extremely badly!) here is a link to a song which I wrote for the P4A this year! |
| January 2, 2012 at 10:54 pm #6341 | |
| Cameron | Hey Jacob and everyone else! Rowena and Matt I know how you feel, I love singing but I’m not very good at it hahaha. Much to the dismay of my family. Mhairi, good look with the violin! I would love to learn that instrument one day. When played well it can sound beautiful Jamie, i play a little guitar but compared to you I’m probably terrible hahaha. Have you done any grades? (i don’t know if they have them outside the UK ) Joshua, one word: Groovy. You ought to learn sax so you can get writing some awesome jazz Samuel, i checked out your video, and I ALREADY KNOW YOU! I’m CameronJT off of youtube! Fancy seeing you here! :’) James, nice improv! Would love to see more. Do be sure to tweet me @camjtt and tell me if you do any more, would love to see it And finally, Emily, that is certainly a vey creative P4A video, i loved it As for myself I play piano and ukulele mostly but i am sufficient in guitar, bass, synth, drums and i’ve just started learning theremin. I do videosongs on youtube (CameronJT). It’s lovely to meet you all |

| Kellen Liao | Hello! I am a singer and I play guitar (both electric and acoustic) and bass (upright and electric). Unfortunately I haven’t learned to sing and play an instrument yet, but that is one of my goals for this year. |
| January 2, 2012 at 11:00 pm #6387 | |
| Elin | I used to play drums and now I intend to take up guitar |
| January 3, 2012 at 12:38 am #6953 | |
| Jake Peters | I mostly play bass guitar, but I also played drums in my high school marching band (1 year bass, 3 years snare). I play a little bit of regular guitar and I’m trying to get better at drum set now that I don’t have marching band for my drum fix. Here’s a video of me playing a song I wrote for solo 6-string bass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0D3Q7vI82I&feature=plcp&context=C3abeaccUDOEgsToPDskIvBZfFbRKQqvaJtqsr_pBo And here’s a link to my band’s Facebook, we have music under the “Band Profile” tab and we need more likes!: http://www.facebook.com/beardsandbroads Also, do you guys think we should have a separate thread for promoting our music, or will this one work for both introductions and promotion? I’ll start a separate band promotion thread if enough people think it’s a good idea. |

| Jamie Sparkes | @Cameron I’m in the UK, and they have Rockschool. Have you done any? Personally, I haven’t, but as I’m taking AS Music I have to play Grade 5 or over to get full marks. I’m currently learning “All Funked Up” from the Rockschool grade 5 book. Rather entertaining to play. XD |
| January 3, 2012 at 12:54 am #7060 | |
| Kristen | I play euphonium, trombone, trumpet, guitar, and a tiny bit of drums. Needless to say, I freakin’ love brass instruments. |
| January 3, 2012 at 1:08 am #7163 | |
| Faith | Hey! I have played piano for 11 years. I’ve also recently picked up guitar, and have been on the drumline for the past three years in marching band at my high school. I have written a few songs, including one for an Othello project I did for AP Lit… but none of them were very good. I mainly arrange songs on piano… |
| January 3, 2012 at 1:16 am #7237 | |
| Jared | I’ve played 11 different instruments but right now i play guitar and ukulele…I try to sing, but that never goes well. I also write songs and put them up on my youtube channel. |

| Julia <3 | Hello, everyone! I’m a singer – been singing in choirs since I was 5, and have a few years of classical training in there, too. I don’t really play any instruments, but I have a little keyboard and am hoping to improve upon my tinkering this year. SO excited to be here. <3 |
| January 3, 2012 at 7:33 am #9001 | |
| Abby | Hey there =D I’m a music therapy major, and my primary instrument is percussion. I also play piano, guitar, ukulele, and I sing. The only music I write is the music I write for my clients, but I have so much respect for everyone that does it on their own. |
| January 3, 2012 at 10:47 am #9156 | |
| Tash Hunt | I’ve been playing flute seriously for five years, and self teach myself saxophone, ukulele, guitar and piano. I’m a half decent flautist, but I’m rather rubbish at the rest. And I’ve never really attempted to write a pop song as I am rubbish at lyrics (which is funny because I’m a writer and I am an elite RPer) but I’ve done a couple of instrumental things and I’ve rearranged quite a few pieces. Oh, and I’m studying music for my year 11 & 12 course, which is gonna include compositions. |
| January 3, 2012 at 12:35 pm #9353 | |
| Tara | Em I’ve been playing guitar 4 and half years. I write my own material and perform whenever I can. I am a very bad drummer aswell. Hoping to learn violin and piano sometime in the future too http://www.youtube.com/user/CaptainQuestionable?feature=mhee (some of my original material is up here) |
| January 3, 2012 at 6:35 pm #10113 | |
| Hugo | @cameron No way man! Your videosongs are boss! Excellent work on expiration date! Check out some of my videosongs if you’re feeling up to it.. |
| January 3, 2012 at 8:02 pm #10516 | |
| Amybell | Hiya! Mostly I just sing, but I was kind of a boss at the ukulele a year ago before I fell out of practice, and I dabble a little in piano. One of my biggest dreams in life is to learn cello. <3 |
| January 3, 2012 at 8:24 pm #10643 | |
| Zachary Watson | Hi. I play guitar (I’m pretty decent, too, even if I only have a working knowledge of theory), write songs for me and my band, and I used to dabble in electronica but I wasn’t good at it so it wasn’t a good medium for musical expression. I intend to put some of my band’s music on Youtube sometime this year, and start giving guitar lessons. |
| January 3, 2012 at 10:19 pm #11275 | |
| Julia | Hey! This is a long story. So I’ve been playing guitar for years, must be more than six…maybe seven or eight years? I passed exams and stuff but I never really did any more than I had to. A couple of months ago I bought a ukulele on a whim and started playing it and thought, hey, this is fun. So then I picked up my guitar and just started playing some stuff, and I wrote a song, and since then there hasn’t been a single day when I haven’t picked it up and played something. Since then I’ve taken up mandolin, bought a beautiful resonator guitar and started learning slide, got my first bass, and I’ve been working on fixing up an old banjolele. I also dabble in regular banjo. It’s been a kind of whirlwind of music, but it’s really awesome. It’s funny because until last month I let all my friends believe I was a terrible singer and they were so surprised when they found out I wasn’t actually awful, which was nice (and…slightly insulting…) |
| January 4, 2012 at 1:47 am #12232 | |
| Maggie | Hey! I play piano, percussion, alto sax and a little of guitar and bass and flute. I’ve been playing piano for forever and alto sax for seven years. Percussion and the rest for about two. I’ve tried in the past to write music but it hasn’t gone that well, mostly because I get frustrated quickly. However at the moment I’m rearranging and rewriting parts for a piece our high school wind ensemble is playing, so I guess I can say I’ve dabbled in it. I plan on being a piano education major in college. So yup. |

| January 4, 2012 at 2:45 am #12571 | |
| Lily | I have played the flute for 3 and a half years, I now play the piccolo instead. I have played the alto saxophone for 1 year, but I am in symphonic band at my school for it, so I am half decent. I play piano and percussion on the side as a hobby and I also sing in choirs. I have also recently joined the Doctor Who Fan Orchestra for alto saxophone, so if anyone here likes Doctor Who, you should go check that out. |

| Nim | Hi! my main instrements are electric and upright bass but I also play clarinet, saxophone, guitar, ukulele and I can do a little bit of percussion aswell. Im hopeing to attend college next year for jazz performance on bass. I currently play in a big band a orchestra and my own alternative rock band. As far as my orgionals go I released my first EP last year which is a series of instremental songs representing each part of the day which I recorded by myself. The EP is up for free download so check that out if you want. I also upload some more pop based origionals and covers on my youtube channel. My EP My Youtube channel |

| Bailey | Hello! I’m in Gr 12 and I’ve been playing flute for the past 5 years and I’m working on my royal conservatory level 8 right now. I’m hoping to get in to UVIC’s music education program. I used to take piano lessons, but I dropped them this year to focus on flute. I have had experience on piccolo, sax!, clarinet and guitar, too. Also, I was lucky enough to go to band camp this year! It was an incredible experience! This one time at band camp…. Flute was kind of a last minute decision in Gr8. I’ve come to realize in the past couple of years that I’m in love with the brassy sound of the trumpet/trombone and the jazz music that goes along with it. |
| January 4, 2012 at 9:47 am #13420 | |
| Lisa | I’m a singer/songwriter. I play a wee bit of piano, but nothing fantastic. I also own a mandolin, but sadly haven’t done a whole lot with it since I got it. It’s one of the things I hope to do this year, along with music collabs with my guitar-playing friends to write more songs. More songs, I say! |

| Jo Goddard | Hey people I started off life as a violinist. I was going to my sister’s lessons from the age of 2, and constantly surrounded by her playing and listening to classical music in my formative years. I started learning myself at age 4, and took weekly lessons until last year when I left school. I managed to achieve a merit in my grade 8 (for non-UK people, that’s the highest level musical exam you can take without doing a diploma) and still play today. Wow, really didn’t mean to write such an essay.. oops :S |

| Allison | I’ve been playing violin for over nine years. I don’t think I’ll ever pursue it professionally, but it’s a fun experience. I also love to sing, and have a pretty good voice. |
| January 6, 2012 at 7:31 am #18011 | |
| Madison | @Allison Wow! Nine years?! That’s amazing! I just started playing violin last year, and I’m really not that good at it. Practice makes perfect, I guess. I absolutely love to sing, but I also absolutely suck. I have this really bad habit of singing (loudly) when I think I’m alone. Most of the time it turns out that I am not. -_- |
| January 7, 2012 at 12:49 am #19020 | |
| Jeremy | Well, I consider myself a pretty big music nerd. I also play guitar and attempt to sing. I’m going be starting a band with my best friend who also plays guitar. We’re pretty big fans of garage rock and blues so it’ll probably be in that vein. One thing we really want is someone who can play keyboards. Specifically Hammond organ. If anyone here can play, or know someone who plays Hammond organ please drop me a line! It’s really great to see there’s so many peple creating music out there! |
| January 7, 2012 at 1:19 am #19049 | |
| Siobhan | @Kristen and @Rose yay other trombone nerdfighters!! My main instruments are voice and trombone but am capable at playing anything lower brass really.. Dabbled in percussion – mainly tuned and fool around on my sisters french horn!! I’m majoring in voice when I go to Uni this year so definitely looking forward to that! Haven’t really tried singer/songwriter but may give it a whirl this year

| Emily | I play flute, violin, and harp. Flute was my first, but violin is my musical soul mate. I don’t intend to pursue music as my main career, although my passions lie in the arts, but it’s something I’ll never stop doing. I intend to pick up piano this year, and I want to learn how to play cello as well. |
| January 7, 2012 at 5:52 pm #20384 | |
| Andi N. | I play violin. I started when I was about 6, and played for ten years. I then went on hiatus for 5 years, and I just started taking lessons again this year. It’s just a pass-time for me. I enjoy playing it. If I do anything with it, I might use it in my future classroom one day. We’ll see. |
| January 13, 2012 at 3:32 am #29401 | |
| Kyle Corcoran | I play percussion (mainly the mallet stuff, that is my forte |
| January 13, 2012 at 8:46 pm #29763 | |
| Bellamy | Well, I don’t know if I count as a musician. I mean, I am one, but I’ve never done anything big. Although, I Sing and Play: Anywho, if you want to listen to my latest feat of producing: |
| January 16, 2012 at 8:51 pm #34026 | |
| Cait M. | I’ve played violin for 5 years and the guitar for a year and I’m trying to teach myself the mandolin! |
| January 17, 2012 at 2:59 am #34820 | |
| jossy | I played piano for seven years and have been playing saxophones for about five years! |
| January 21, 2012 at 8:34 pm #38594 | |
| Catherine | I have played the violin for eighteen years. So, awhile. I majored in performance in college and I’m now in school for musicology. I’m classically trained, but also dabble in Irish trad. Love music! |
| February 2, 2012 at 6:46 am #47716 | |
| Catherine | Piano, violin, guitar, ukelele and singing. Catherine, I am classically trained as well! I listen to alternative rock to pop to classical |

| Catherine | @yeracontra Classically trained Catherines FTW. |
| February 5, 2012 at 8:34 am #49155 | |
| Brady | I’ve taught myself how to play the drum set over the last 8 years, and people tell me that Im pretty good at it. I’ve been fortunate enough to be at a school with a really strong performing arts program, and I’ve taken full advantage of it: 4 years of marching band (1 year bass drum, 2 years quads/tenors, 1year snare), 2 years of the school’s symphonic band (which wins a Unanimous Superior [the highest possible rating at our band competitions] almost every year), and this year in the jazz program. I also play in a jazz combo with some friends, and we’ve found out that playing music is the most fun and most frustrating way to earn money. I also dabble in electronic music, but I’m pretty bad at it, to be honest. Taking AP (college-level, for non-US students) music theory helps with the writing, but I need more practice with the software (Ableton Live). I seem to get exponentially better every time I make something, so there’s hope that I’ll be decent one day. If you want to listen to what I’ve made, check out my soundcloud: http://soundcloud.com/0mini |
| February 6, 2012 at 8:41 pm #49854 | |
| Joel | I am able to play guitar, drums, piano, bass and flute, I’m self-taught in all of those instruments except for the flute wich I played for about three years. |
| February 15, 2012 at 9:43 pm #55052 | |
| Emma George | I play ukulele and saxophone. I dabble quite a bit in mandolin and keyboard. I am quite a good singer, but enjoy just writing my thought down without putting them to music. I also play melodica ( a very fun instrument ) and am hoping to get an accordion, proper recorder ( not the whistle ), and a dulcimer. Maybe, possibly a diggeredo (spelling?). |

| Lowri | Piano, Harp, Trumpet/Cornet, Guitar. I’ll give an short tale on each. I started piano lessons at the age of 4. I hated them, but my mother always told me “You’ll thank me when you’re older”, and she’s right. Piano lessons are the greatest gift you can give your child! With the harp, it was a weird thing. Someone on my fathers family (quite distant) had passed away, so he and his cousins were clearing the house. There was a harp. None of them wanted it, so my dad called me and asked if I wanted it. If you don’t know, harps are MEGA expensive and something I’ve always wanted to play. So of course, I said yes. It’s now in my attic, and I play it 2-3 times a week. Self teaching is difficult though :/ Trumpet/Cornet I started at age 8, a brass teach came to our primary school, and some kids were chosen to have lessons, and I was one of those children. The teacher taught in several schools and made a brass band out of us all, got more funding, more and more kids joined, and I’m still there to this day Started guitar at about 5 or 6 because 2 of my brothers played the guitar and they were my idols. They taught me some Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers etc. They’re my everything. |
