| Allibeth | @SarahAlyse We should make it into a group! (c; |

| Jules | @SarahAlyse I was just watching the new video and was scrolling down to read the comments and I saw your name. It actually surprised me a little, which is hilarious. Like, “Why is she here instead of on Your Pants?” Almost like that feeling you got when you were a kid and would see your teacher at the grocery store, ha. In other news, I’m all for the Cusp group. Even though I’m already 30 and therefore not really cusp-y. Also, I totally found and bought a wild Hanklerfished TFiOS today. I feel kind of dumb, since we already have two copies from the Tour, but I didn’t get mine ‘fished or even signed by Hank and it’s always bummed me out. And this one was so pretty… aqua scribble and purple fish. I just remind myself that I’m part of the reason Henry will be able to go to a really nice university one day. |

| SarahAlyse | Not to mention that we’re helping keep Lemon and Willy in kibbles and bits! |

| Jules | And Cameo nomming on Meow Mix and Fancy Feast. Poor Cameo. Never any love for Cameo. :/ |
| February 4, 2012 at 8:25 am #48687 | |
| SarahAlyse | Aw, yeah. There haven’t been any Cameo sightings in Hank’s video in ages. I can’t keep my cat out of mine…even when I don’t realize it, I go to watch my footage and there he is, perched somewhere in the background. The single women of the Cusp of Thirty should start an Official Cameo Appreciation Society. We’re all set to become old cat ladies anyway. |

| Gino Brancazio | @andbutso ” I just remind myself that I’m part of the reason Henry will be able to go to a really nice university one day.” I kind of understand though, I only discovered the Vlogbrothers last summer and I hadn’t read any of John’s books before. I ordered TFIOS just to be supportive really but loved reading it. I got mocked by some friends for reading a “teen romance book” but I didn’t care, it’s a fantastic book. And yeah, Henry deserves a good education @sarahalyse yeah I actually had a cat invasion in one of my videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd7VJsqUyV0 (it’s in the outtake) As an ex-teacher and now private tutor I enjoy working with young people (I normally teach 15-18yr olds) and they make me feel young again a lot of the time but sometimes in the vlogbrothers videos they cut to a shot of the crowd and I see so many teenagers and mostly girls and I feel a bit out of place. Still, I always enjoy pointing out to my students that I’m actually older than the internet |

| SarahAlyse | Disguising a thread bump as promoting my TdN vlog! I’ll justify posting it here by saying that it shows how age doesn’t make a huge difference at Nerdfighter gatherings. My friend Brigid, who co-authored the video, is 19 — exactly ten years younger than me. But we do have fun |

| Jules | @SarahAlyse Hank tweeted you. And reblogged your tumblr post about it. You’re, like, super-amazing right now! I’m jealous of your awesome. |
| February 26, 2012 at 4:12 am #59532 | |
| SarahAlyse | I know, right? Then he reblogged me on Tumblr. It was all very exciting! More on topic for this thread, I kept making this joke on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, etc, and nobody seemed to react. That’s what happens when you make a joke that is older than most Nerdfighters. http://sarahalyse.tumblr.com/post/18063176963/i-swear-on-all-that-is-holy-this-is-exactly-what |
| February 26, 2012 at 4:21 am #59540 | |
| Jules | Well, *I* reacted to it, I even reblogged it for the wonderful last tag. And that song got stuck in my head all day, thanks so much. |

| SarahAlyse | Ah, so you were the one! Thanks for that, it made my day |

| SarahAlyse | Went to the Seattle nerdfighter gathering last week. I was pleased that there were a few other nerdfighters of a certain age there, including several who were old school nerdfighters! The only time I felt old was when most of the group broke out into a song from Mulan. Not really my era! |

| Jules | Today is one of those days when the majority of nerdfighteria being teenagers kind of annoys me. Hank posted a video on his channel about the deeper meanings behind The Hunger Games. It’s an excellent video and you can tell he is really passionate and affected by what he’s trying to express… yet every third comment is either someone getting overly excited about the fact that he says “fuck” and it’s not bleeped or someone saying, “great message, awesome, but you’re over the time limit so now you get punished”– which means that they 1) didn’t pay attention to the point of the video at all and 2) failed to notice that it’s not a vlogbrothers video in the first place and is just Hank trying to express something that he finds to be important. Am I just being prejudiced in assuming that the majority of these pointless comments are from the younger fans? Am I being unfair? Am I dumb for being really frustrated that these people are watching a video and then *completely* missing the point? Ugh. (gonna go yell at kids to stay off my lawn now…) |

| Allibeth | Jules, On the plus side, in the past couple of weeks I’ve recruited 2 of my real life friends who are of a certain age to join the nerdfighting community. (c; |

| SarahAlyse | I didn’t watch the video because I was afraid of spoilers (haven’t read the books yet), but that is disheartening. Especially people saying he should be punished. I personally have always found the punishments somewhat distasteful (as someone who’s actually received a strong electric shock in the past, I was really uncomfortable with the shocking toy at the Tour de Nerdfighting). It’s hard to say if this is the result of young fans, without peeking at the YouTube account of every user who said something. Occam’s Razor says yes, but he’s not always right. It may also be due to the fact that their fanbase has grown big enough to contain a few jerks (sad but inevitable). Then again, I just found out about the extremely upsetting trend of fans pestering Hank and Katherine to have kids, which HAS to be the teenagers….right? |
| March 29, 2012 at 4:54 am #72784 | |
| Allibeth | Sarah, I really couldn’t say for sure if any of it was kids… but I do believe it is the immature people.. no matter what number is associated with their age. All of it is upsetting. I don’t know if the video has any spoilers in it, I have not read the book. The video is really good and you should watch it. It seems to be about the theme of the story and no so much about specific events within it. Maybe someone else would know better if there are spoilers. My favorite videos from the hank and john are the informative one and the heartfelt ones… with their new fanbase growing, there seems to be less and less of that. And I don’t know if it is just me, but John seems overwhelmed a lot of times. Off the topic… I’m bravely entering the world of YouTube on the other side of the conversation… I’ve started uploading videos. Nothing personal yet, but I hope to become brave enough to upload a vlog soon. |

| SarahAlyse | That’s awesome, @theallibeth! Let us know when you do |
| March 30, 2012 at 2:47 am #73077 | |
| Jules | I just wrote an amazingly too long reply, so I deleted it. Seriously, way too long. So I’ll try to summarize: READ THE HUNGER GAMES. SO GOOD. Well, except for the third book maybe, it was a little disappointing. But the movie is excellent as well though it’s *very* different from the book. Oh, and Hank’s video is non-spoilery. @SarahAlyse I’m with you on the It’s None Of Your Damn Business Whether Hank and Katherine Procreate boat, especially because he’s addressed it SEVERAL times in the past (also, I liked that he “liked” your tumblr post about it)– that being said, I think if they choose to have kids that they would be excellent parents. And in today’s SciShow video he kinda sorta implies that he has successfully passed on his genes. Kind of. I’m thinking he might need to clarify, actually, because the nerds are all a-twitter about it in the comments. @theallibeth I’ve noticed that the guys seem really tired in their videos lately, especially Hank, but I figured that between making videos and getting VidCon together and signing bookplates, etc… well, they’re bound to be exhausted. But I do miss their more straightforward, non-gimmicky videos. I’ve been rewatching starting with the old Brotherhood 2.0 vids and it’s just so interesting how different the tone is now. I miss the old ones. Which brings me back to today’s SciShow video… along with Conjecture About Current Status of Katherine’s Uterus statements in the comments are people attacking one another for their religious/scientific beliefs. One poor Creationist kid dared to put forth his beliefs (I feel for the kid, I was raised young-earth creationist) and it has been suggested to him, several times, that he should just kill himself and spare the world. Seriously? I mean, seriously? I know that this is SciShow and therefore some of the fans aren’t necessarily nerdfighters, but you see it in the comments of the regular videos as well. And I guess I just don’t understand how a group of people, mainly teenagers, most of whom label themselves “nerds” and probably get bullied daily, people who live by the mantra “don’t forget to be awesome” find it okay to attack each other all the time. I honestly don’t think this happened as much in the older days of Vlogbrothers. I guess the community has gotten large enough now that stuff like this will occur, but it’s still disappointing and sad. It’s like this girl I used to teach who loves to watch Glee, but gets annoyed when they do a musical number… it’s just strange. And even with the edited version, my comment is too long and I fear incoherent. Took my kid to the park today. Brain no worky now. (Also, on a completely inappropriate for my maturity level note, saw Michael Aranda’s video featuring Hank wearing a lab coat and in an actual lab and totally crushed on him for like five minutes. Maybe longer. John with his “nerd” glasses circa 2007/2008 has the same effect on me, ha.) |
| March 30, 2012 at 4:52 am #73115 | |
| Jules | Yep, Hank just had to make a tumblr post to say he’s not having a kid. Sigh… |
| March 30, 2012 at 8:40 am #73139 | |
| SarahAlyse | WHAT HANK LIKED MY POST I DID NOT SEE THAT OH MAN THAT IS COOL I GUESS WHATEVER I’M COOL NOT RUNNING TO TUMBLR RIGHT NOW OR ANYTHING Oh man, his was the second note! I was so busy reading peoples’ responses to it that I glossed right over it. Every time Hank notices me, I feel like we’re just a tiny bit closer to being BFFs and going out for brunch all the time and trading mixCDs. Edited to add: Ohhhh yeah. John’s nerd glasses. Yeah, it’s…it’s a good thing he doesn’t wear those anymore. A very good thing. |
| March 30, 2012 at 3:48 pm #73167 | |
| Jules | Ha, I felt the same way when he replied to me on twitter. Especially since it was, like, the first tweet I had ever tweeted. Or whatever the correct twitter vernacular is… Husband and I often dream of finding real-life friends similar to Hank and John, but I just don’t think it’s going to happen for us as long as we live here in the Land of Suck. Well, that’s not true, we have several nerdtastic acquaintances, but they’re all former students who are roughly 10 years younger than us. So it’s kinda weird to just hang out. Yeah, the nerd glasses. There’s this one gif of him wearing him in the last Brotherhood 2.0 video, and he does this little smirk thing and… yeah. It’s a nice gif. |

| Allibeth | http://yourpants.org/pantsforum/topic/what-is-unique-about-your-appearance-project Would you guys be interested in helping me with my project? I’d like to have some help from the older crowd too, if possible. (c; You’ll get to see me vlog. Yay! |

| Sunrise | I asked Hank about Cameo on tumblr after it came up in this discussion, and he didn’t reply but he put her in his latest video! I am so glad to see her alive and well. |
| April 14, 2012 at 8:41 am #79182 | |
| Jules | I was happy to see Cameo as well. She’s such a cute little fluffball. Now if we could just get John to feature Willy more often… it’s important to have regular doses of nerdtastic cuteness. Anyone else watching the Pride and Prejudice project that launched last week? It seems interesting enough so far, but also confusing… half the comments are about how it’s awesome that there’s an adaptation, half are talking to “Lizzie” herself… but hey, I’m a huge fan of P&P and if this gets more people into it, I’m sold. Plus I’m interested to see how “Darcy” will be portrayed… |

| Rose | I’m 27 and discovered Vlogbrothers, and all the awesome that follows such a discovery, just a couple months ago. I’ve been leery about joining the site or in on any discussions for fear of being the creepy older lady among all the teens and barely-out-of-high-schoolers. So I’m glad to have found this thread. I’ve never been very adept at being social, but the whole idea of Nerdfighters has really made me want to get out there and meet people! I found John and Hank though Charlie McDonnell’s vlog. I’m a Chameleon Circuit fan, being that I have a slight Doctor Who addiction. It’s all been a bit intimidating because I feel like I’m starting so late in the game. |
| May 5, 2012 at 5:48 am #84881 | |
| Allibeth | I’m glad you’re here! I also found John and Hank through Charlie. It has been about 2 years now and I still feel like a stalker. (c; I like Charlie’s recent video about him talking to us as individuals and not as a group. But, that just makes it worse. I think I blushed a bit during that video! |
| May 5, 2012 at 4:18 pm #84900 | |
| Rose | Thank you! Every time I check my YouTube subscription box for new vids I feel like a stalker. I think that is something YouTube and Facebook have in common! I liked that Video of Charlie’s as well. I think it shows he isn’t doing all that just for fame and popularity. I usually blush at how often he takes his shirt off! I feel like I need to advert my eyes or feel like a creeper. Ha! He just has such a baby face. Are there any other vloggers you would recommend to some new to the scene? |
| May 5, 2012 at 6:07 pm #84908 | |
| Allibeth | Yes! I will give you a list. hehe.. (c; Let me know what you like and don’t like. CGPGrey Those are my favorites. I can always send you more if you crave it. (c; |

| Jules | @sarahalyse Hank reblogged you again. You’re, like, TUMBLR BESTIES WITH HIM!! Or something. On another note, I picked out new nerdy frames for the husband. He claims that they look like Hank’s and that I did it on purpose. Which is just ridiculous… ahem… |
