| Lauren | Leo, that sounds like it was really awesome. They don’t do stuff like that at my stupid school. Sounds like it was a really great experience! I found out from just generally being a YouTuber. And Henry is adorable. I can’t wait until he’s old enough to read his dad’s books and pick up a camera. But, I found out about vlogbrothers through Dan Brown, aka pogobat. He would always talk about how they had “DFTBA”, and so he made up “PDBAZ” (Please Don’t Be A Zombie, and since a little context is in order, I’d suggest searching his channel for the video). So I decided to check them out, and I fell in love with Nerdfighteria |

| James | That sounds extremely jokes. |

| Leo Shannon | @Izzy…hello…? (Also hello to the rest of you, but sorry, I just have absolutely nothing else to say:P) |
| February 26, 2012 at 1:30 pm #59615 | |
| James | Izzy was most likely trying to post in Nerdfighters Who Are Too Old to be TEENAGERS and too young to be ADULTS. You can’t delete posts on the new Your Pants. You van just edit them. So that’s probably what happened. Do you guys watch Doctor Who? |
| February 27, 2012 at 1:34 am #60149 | |
| Lauren | Okay, so I made an effort to try Doctor Who out, because I felt left out being a Nerdfighter who didn’t like it. So I watched an episode the other day, and it was alright. I liked the doctor. |
| February 27, 2012 at 2:14 am #60178 | |
| Charlotte | Which doctor was it? |
| February 27, 2012 at 6:12 am #60292 | |
| Lauren | The new one. It was a new episode, about a widow and her two kids and Christmas and a forest and a box. The title was parodying that of a Narnia book’s title. I liked it, but I’m not really in to that type of sci-fi/fantasy-ish stuff. |
| February 28, 2012 at 12:54 am #60509 | |
| James | Matt Smith! He’s good. That episode is pretty different from a lot of the other ones because it’s a Christmas special and stuff. |
| February 28, 2012 at 5:42 am #60686 | |
| Lauren | I’m trying to get in to it. I gotta get used to it, like how you get used to coffee? Except I’m allergic to coffee, so the analogy sorta falls through, but I digress. |
| February 29, 2012 at 2:46 am #60921 | |
| Leo Shannon | I would agree that Matt Smith is a great doctor, possibly my favorite (although Patrick Troughton, from the old Doctor Who, was brilliant as well.) If you want another episode to watch, though, I would recommend Blink (David Tennant) or Vincent and the Doctor (Matt Smith). Also, does anyone watch Sherlock? |
| February 29, 2012 at 5:13 am #61019 | |
| Lauren | I don’t. See, I just watch On Demand all day when I’m home, and compared to the amount of television shows out there, they have a very limited stock. Like, I watch The Big Bang Theory every week. That’s great. It’s just, when you spend most of your time either alone and/or lying down on a bed or couch, you watch a lot of TV, and develop some habits you wouldn’t otherwise consider ideal. Like, I’ve resorted to watching Survivor. I can almost feel my intelligence drop when I watch it. But I like reality shows like that. Survivor’d be cool if it wasn’t fake. It’d be like The Hunger Games, except instead of killing people you vote them off. |
| March 1, 2012 at 3:25 am #61372 | |
| Leo Shannon | So…is On Demand part of Netflix or not? I don’t really have a functioning tv, so I just watch all the things I want to watch (the majority of which is Sherlock and Doctor Who) on Netflix. So is Sherlock maybe on On Demand (assuming it is a branch of netflix)? |
| March 1, 2012 at 5:30 am #61479 | |
| Lauren | No, On Demand is Comcast-related. Right? Ughhhh, why can’t Hank be in charge of television…. |
| March 3, 2012 at 1:56 am #61947 | |
| Leo Shannon | I just got a few of my friends/acquaintances reading John’s books, and they love them. Yay! |
| March 3, 2012 at 3:01 am #61951 | |
| Jordan | Awesomesauce. |
| March 3, 2012 at 1:30 pm #62052 | |
| James | I used to have On Demand and then we got rid of our tv subscription and just got netflix. Also, I’m currently watching through all of classic Doctor Who in order (other than the episodes BBC lost) and I’m still at William Hartnell so I have not seen Patrick Troughton yet. Matt Smith is my favorite Doctor. I play both violin and clarinet. |
| March 3, 2012 at 5:32 pm #62072 | |
| Lauren | I’m a percussionist. I play the piano (although I haven’t in a while), all sorts of drums and things, and the timpani. But I’m also specifically a mallet percussionist – so I play bells, xylophone, etc. I love it so much. It’s one of the things I’m going to miss when I graduate – my school bands. |
| March 4, 2012 at 12:29 am #62375 | |
| Leo Shannon | That’s awesome that you guys play instruments too! I have been playing the fiddle (mostly Irish) since I was about five, and the guitar (like, Jazz or something) for a few years. My high school for next year has a big Jazz band that I’m relatively nervous to try out for. And @Lauren, you’re the first person my age I’ve /talked/ to who is actually a real drummer and/or percussionist. Cool! (Although I have absolutely no idea what a timpani is.) |
| March 4, 2012 at 5:35 am #62535 | |
| Lauren | It’s also called a kettle drum. Here’s a picture: http://dft.ba/-21tI Yeah, I’m really sad because I’m leaving my school’s jazz band. I’m gonna miss it so much. The school that I’m going into, they had an open house that I went to, and they had a little ensemble from their high school there playing, and the piece they played was something I might have played in 5th grade. So either my band is really good, or they’re just really bad. And I think they’re just really bad. |

| Lauren | So what’s new with you guys? |
| March 11, 2012 at 5:48 am #65564 | |
| Riley McCormick | Um, so hey. I’m Riley, and I’m 13, and in 7th grade. I totally get why alot of you guys dont feel like teenagers even though you are, and for a variety of reasons. I grew up with 2 older siblings and 1 younger one, so i was always kind of the baby of the family, the “daddy’s little girl” because my younger sister acted more mature than me a lot. When i was 9 my dad divorced and recently got remarried to an also divorced woman, adding another older brother and a younger one. No longer being such the baby of the family, im starting to feel kind of like a teenager, but not really yet. |
| March 11, 2012 at 2:45 pm #65595 | |
| James | Nothing much is new with me. Starting tomorrow, I have rehearsal for my school’s spring play until 9:00 which is going to be exhausting. Hi Riley. I know what you mean. I have an older brother and no younger siblings so I’m the youngest in my family. |
| March 11, 2012 at 7:40 pm #65628 | |
| Lauren | Hey, Riley. I can’t really emphasize with you, because I’m sorta the oldest (although I have a half brother, who’s 30-something). But I can sorta get it. Once we’re all in high school, things will be different. It’s just the being-a-lowly-middle-schooler thing that bites us all in the butt. James – are you in your play? You seem like you’d be a good actor. Or are you in the orchestra, or doing AV, or stage crew or something else? I can’t act for my life, so that’s what I do with my school plays. AV. I’d do orchestra if we had it, but my school doesn’t even have a substantial stage area set up. |
| March 11, 2012 at 10:16 pm #65721 | |
| James | Yes, I’m in the play. I have a small role and I don’t think I’m that good at acting, but it’s fun and stuff. |
| March 11, 2012 at 11:30 pm #65791 | |
| Leo Shannon | Hey riley. Although I’m an only child, so when my parents divorced I had it a little better (I guess?), I definitely understand what you’re saying. But as for what I’ve been doing, my band and I just went down to Portland (from seattle) to play a concert and a contra dance, which was pretty fun. We got our first real encore, and although it was sort of half-assed, it wasn’t just our parents clapping because they didn’t want to get in the car and take us to soccer practice. (I apologize to @Riley–the other one, who’s in my band–for semi-stealing that line from you.) Also, James, that’s really cool! I wish I could be a halfway-decent actor, but it sounds like you’re pretty good! |
| March 12, 2012 at 5:50 am #66084 | |
| Lauren | Yeah, me too. I’m terrible at acting. I just had my Odyssey of the Mind (coolest thing ever, btw, next to Nerdfighteria, it’s the most awesome thing in the world) Regionals tournament, and we got first place. We have to put on a skit, and although I kinda suck at acting, I think I did alright. But in any circumstance possible, I just… You know. Operate a camera. Direct. Produce. I do that pretty well, though. I play in my school’s jazz band, and we give them an encore whether they like it or not. Was it your school band? Or are you in like, a band band? And good luck at rehearsal, James! |
| March 12, 2012 at 6:13 am #66098 | |
| Leo Shannon | It’s like a scottish/irish/old time/anything that we feel like playing kind of band that I’m in along with Riley and another person. Wow, I winced just typing that sentence. Here is a shameless plug, in case you care. http://www.facebook.com/theOnlies I am the one wearing a Giant Squid of Anger shirt in one of the photos. Also, looking at the Odyssey of the Mind wikipedia page, it looks both incredibly fun and incredibly intimidating. I get scared when really any kind of competition comes up. I’m just a wuss like that. But congrats on first place! |
| March 12, 2012 at 9:43 am #66114 | |
| Lauren | That is so cool! So you guys have been playing together for a while then? And thanks! It can be intimidating, but it’s amazing. Like, people being enthusiastic about the same thing, in the same place, and such. |
| March 12, 2012 at 10:28 am #66116 | |
| James | That’s really cool. Also, Scottish and Irish music is awesome. Odyssey of the Mind sounds really cool, too. Good job on being first place! |
| March 12, 2012 at 7:34 pm #66180 | |
| Lauren | Thanks. You know what I’m noticing today? I’m noticing that I’m never going to get used to videos not being posted Mon – Wed – Fri. Like, I know there’s Crash Course and SciShow, and that Swoodilypooper videos go out pretty fast nowadays, but… Never gonna get used to it. |
| March 13, 2012 at 1:38 am #66517 | |
| James | I know, right? I don’t know the schedule at all anymore. I mean, I know John is Tuesday and Hank is Friday but I have no idea when Crash Course and SciShow videos are uploaded. |
| March 13, 2012 at 2:01 am #66543 | |
| Lauren | Biology is Monday and World History is Thursday. Did you guys see the Bio vid today? Confuzzling. I know SciShow has long episodes on Sundays, but I think there’s a schedule there too. Geez. Lots of schedules. |
| March 13, 2012 at 2:22 am #66565 | |
| Leo Shannon | Yeah, with the end of the mon/wed/fri schedule, it’s really hard to keep track of everything. With scishow, all I know is that long episodes are sundays, and science news is on wednesday. Or maybe thursday. But, yeah, I am in the delayed process of watching today’s crash course. (Or maybe yesterday’s, for people in different time zones. Stupid time zones.) I do a thing where I just go through and take notes, which helps me understand it, but when he got to the part about glycolysis, I had to take a break. TOO MANY WORDS. |
