| Joshua | Nerdfighteria IRC is an IRC (Internet Relay Chat) network started shortly after the launch of yourpants.org in February 2011 to provide Nerdfighters with their own IRC network to chat with other nerdfighters. The nice thing is IRC is a great chat protocol and because it uses our own servers (we have 5 at the moment) we do not have to rely on a third party (such as: skype/AIM/MSN/Yahoo/Tinychat/etc…) It’s a fun place to chat, and as recently as December 2011 we have become affiliated with the Nerdfighter ning (http://nerdfighters.ning.com) and the chat will be embedded into the site that is going to be replacing the ning. So come pull up a chair and chat with us! If you have an IRC client installed on your computer you can connect to irc.nerdfighteria.net port 6667 (6697 is you have and know how to use SSL) and /join #YourPants You can follow us on twitter for updates at http://twitter.com/NerdfighterIRC or like us on Facebook. You can also follow us on tumblr where long updates are posted (because there’s no 140 character limit) here. We have a group located here! We are also hosting Teamspeak on one of our servers because apparently Nerdfighteria didn’t already have a Teamspeak server. We are hosting a Minecraft server, too! Hosting this chat network uses real servers that cost real money. Why not donate a few bucks to help us out? You can send donations to paypal address jacnoc [at] gmail [dot] com – The help is greatly appreciated!

| Luke | I might check this out later. But I bet it’s a ghost town now, for a while at least |
| January 1, 2012 at 3:31 pm #172 | |
| Joshua | Nope it’s not a ghost town. There are plenty of people that chat. (some times during the day it can be quiet because people have IRL things or multitask but people are always in the chat. Sometimes people are just idle/afk. Definitely not a ghost town. Since we don’t “rely” on yourpants. We’re all over the web. Twitter, facebook (okay that one is a ghost town), our own site, the ning, not to mention whenever someone googles ‘nerdfighteria’ nerdfighteria.net shows up (I learned that from Google Analytics). ———— @sam not sure if there’s a way to sticky topics/threads with this new-fangled platform (I wasn’t even aware wordpress had a forum feature), a sticky would be great since the topic for the chat was stickied on the old version

| Jimmy Donaghy | can I be unbanned please <3 |
| January 1, 2012 at 7:25 pm #664 | |
| Joshua | @jimmy um you’ve been unbanned for a few days. The ban was set for 24 hours and thus it automatically was removed after that 24 hours time period was up. |

| Atle | We can also do some helping with any problems people are encountering, and if needed I can make a guide on how to use the chat, either by web or by installing a client. Also, feedback is always good! |

| Joshua | Lots of activity now. And yeah if you’re having any doubts about joining, don’t, because it’s full of awesome. :3 |

| Arya | I’ve been looking for an irc to be in, looks like I found it =D |
| January 2, 2012 at 10:41 pm #6262 | |
| Joshua | If you’ve joined the chat, feel free to post here with the nicknames that you use to keep a “sort of” database of who’s who. I have two names ‘Joshua’ which I talk on very rarely. and the one you’ll almost always see me takling on is “root” (5 points if you are familiar with what the reference is too. I’ll give you a hint. It’s a linux/unix term) |

| Sam | Can any one here recommend a good Windows/Multi-platform IRC client? The current offerings seem rather lacking, but maybe I’m just missing something great somewhere. |
| January 4, 2012 at 2:16 pm #13572 | |
| Katia | @Sam: I use mIRC. It says you have to buy it after a certain amount of time, but the pop-up that says so only lasts for a few seconds, so you really never have to pay anything. |
| January 4, 2012 at 2:33 pm #13583 | |
| Joshua | For Windows I recommend mIRC. As stated above it says it is only free/usable for 30 days but there’s always been a way around that by clicking ‘continue’ after a few seconds (I’m really surprised that they’ve kept that in there). As for multi-platform. xchat aqua is on Mac and Linux and there IS a free version on Windows, however in my opinion, the free version of xchat for windows SUCKS compared to xchat on Linux. Also for Mac (and Ipad and Iphone – although I believe it costs $2 on ipad/iphone) is Colloquy — It is very popular. Finally, on Linux, there’s xchat and then for people that like text-based/command-line based there is irssi (which is what I use in screen on my server) In addition to Multi-platform, Firefox has an addon which is an IRC client called Chatzilla. |

| Lucy Lane | I personally use and love kvIRC, but mIRC tends to be the most popular choice for windows. |
| January 10, 2012 at 6:17 am #25923 | |
| Tom | I use ChatZilla. I always forget to join the nerdfighter channel since it is on its own network |
| January 10, 2012 at 7:14 pm #26334 | |
| Joshua | @guerillero the channel is #YourPants on irc.nerdfighteria.net |
| January 10, 2012 at 8:40 pm #26426 | |
| Sam | @lucylane Oo, thanks, I’ve used Y-Chat (branch of X-Chat) generally up til now, but kvIRC looks like a pretty clean looking alternative (it’s no Colloquy, but when I’m stuck on Windows I’ve gotta find something) |
| January 10, 2012 at 9:12 pm #26485 | |
| Atle | @guerillero You can customize ChatZilla to automatically connect to the Nerdfighteria-network, and then join #yourpants. Here is a tutorial on how to do that. Hope that helps! |

| Joshua | I do think I need to post a little notice. Not completely necessary, although it could be helpful. |
| January 12, 2012 at 4:22 pm #28647 | |
| Acool Funny Name | For Windows people I would recommend Mirc or XChat WDK. For Linux and Mac people I would recommend Irssi, a command line client (It’s okay, it’s easy, command line programs aren’t scary) that’s really awesome and nice looking. @joshua Just put that in the MOTD. |
| January 12, 2012 at 5:33 pm #28693 | |
| Joshua | @maximumrfan yay a fellow irssi user. We have several of those on the network – including myself. Personally I prefer running it in screen to keep it open (also I have it run on one of the servers, so theoretically I can access it from anywhere via sshing in. Although I don’t have a laptop ..or a smartphone (believe it or not, apparently there are SSH apps for smartphones. If I EVER get a smartphone I am totally going to get an SSH app – it would be useful since I have SSH logins for all the Nerdfighteria IRC servers) P.S. Have you been on the network? I don’t recognize your display name/user name. |
| January 13, 2012 at 1:14 am #29176 | |
| Acool Funny Name | @joshua I haven’t been on the chat quite yet. I might pop in later. “Personally I prefer running it in screen to keep it open” |
| January 13, 2012 at 1:45 am #29205 | |
| Joshua | I do keep putty open. but occasionally I disconnect (home internet, ya know). can’t stay sshed into the server 24/7 although most of the time I sometimes am connected for 24h) |
| January 14, 2012 at 3:14 pm #30750 | |
| Balthazar | I’ve noticed that some people join the IRC then leave when no one says anything right away. You do realize that people have other things to do right? We’re not reading the chat all the fucking time. Stay for at least 5 minutes and someone will see you. |
| January 14, 2012 at 3:22 pm #30757 | |
| lucy | I, too, noticed that…The impatience of some people is unbelievable. :/ |
| January 14, 2012 at 3:31 pm #30761 | |
| Balthazar | @lucy I know right? Like I can’t believe that some people are so self centered that they think the people in the IRC are just there to greet you as soon as you enter. |
| January 14, 2012 at 9:31 pm #31254 | |
| Tom | I have seen it happen far too many times |
| January 15, 2012 at 4:58 am #32120 | |
| Kyle Corcoran | I know that I left the chat, but that was like at least 10 minutes later (I was Angelknight18). |
| January 19, 2012 at 1:09 am #36628 | |
| Balthazar | Scumbag nerdfigher: Is in chat for 40 seconds. Declares chat dead. |
| February 3, 2012 at 5:00 pm #48306 | |
| Joshua | We are now running Teamspeak on one of our servers. Teamspeak address: teamspeak.nerdfighteria.net |
| February 4, 2012 at 11:09 am #48696 | |
| Hana:) | I just joined Your Pants ( I know that sounds funny ) and I want to get to know other awesome nerdfighters! How do I do that? I sound like a complete and utter moron don’t I? |
| February 4, 2012 at 6:20 pm #48776 | |
| Joshua | @hanatheepiclynerdfightastic click this link http://qwebirc.nerdfighteria.net:9090/?channels=#YourPants then pick a username and click the button and then you can type/talk in the chat. |
| February 16, 2012 at 5:19 pm #55439 | |
| Rachael | how do i find scottish nerdfighters????? (only joined like two minutes ago so forgive me for being blunt) |
| February 18, 2012 at 5:42 pm #56177 | |
| Joshua | @elephantsizedpuppy The nerdfighters in the chat come from all around the world. Also, not everyone that chats is on at the same time. And sometimes people idle/are afk. Also, the chat is unfortunately still somewhat small (in other words, doesn’t have as many people as I would eventually like it have (eventually I would like it to have hundreds or thousands of people connected all at once). |
