| Munk | The King is DeadThe vampire king has fallen; Richard Rousseau is dead. The supernatural underbelly of the city Orlais is stirring, becoming more prominent than ever before. Vampires are blaming vauds for the fall of their leader, and the werewolves are quick to side with their immortal counterparts, whilst the ghosts try and keep out of the way of all three. The humans, of course, are ignorant of the root of the problem, but it cannot remain so for long. And now, with the introduction of the Supernatural Inquisition Squad in the local police department, it’ll be harder to settle the score than ever. But which species will emerge victorious at the end of this war? And which side are you fighting on, anyway? One thing’s for sure: The King is dead, and Orlais will never be the same. ************ Welcome to The King is Dead! This supernatural roleplay is the third incarnation of what was originally known as The Secret of New Orleans, created by our darling Grizzy. The first one was a huge success, featuring secret vampire societies, interspecies romance and a reincarnated vampire hunter from the Middle Ages. Unfortunately, Your Pants was brought down by Russian hackers, and we never found out how things would turn out for our heroes. The second attempt, now led by yours truly and the ever so charming Elexea, contained the bare bones of the first one. It never got far, however, before our Russian nemesis struck again. But the third time, as they say, is the charm, and Elexea and I plan to see this one all the way to the end. A word of warning: This shit be dark. There will likely be sex and death, and there most certainly will be crime, drugs, crazy voodoo, and violence. This ain’t gonna be PG-13, and if that’s not your cup of tea, The King is Dead is probably not for you. If we haven’t scared you off yet, here’s what you need to know before diving into the roleplay. ************ Setting Orlais is a beautiful, old city in Canada, with its roots firmly planted in the French culture that founded it. The city is split into four main districts, and the opportunities and inhabitants in each are unique. Or so they would have you believe… The Val D’Or is home to the rich and beautiful, but its golden splendor is only something to be seen at night, when the walk is lit with street lamps, as it is practically invisible to the sun during the day. Needless to say, many of the more… unusual residents of the city have taken up living here, and it’s now almost exclusively a mortal-free zone. Residential area. The Central District is home to the city’s nightlife. In the more traditional sense of the word. It’s filled with clubs, bars, brothels and other such dens of iniquity. This is the place you’d be most likely to visit if you needed a little pick me up, or to find a drink or dancer to numb your pain. It’s also a hotbed of vaud activity, and a place of endless suspicion for the police. Places of note include: La fée dansante (brothel), The Jade Dragon (nightclub… strip club… other?), Chateau Rouge (popular vampire hot spot, lots of venom addicts in there.) The Industrial District is rather derelict. It’s not that nobody’s working there, it’s just that many people wish they weren’t. There are a lot of alleyways in the Industrial District, so I’d advise you to keep a firm grip on your bag. Or at least start carrying around some pepper spray. There are also a lot of homeless wandering around the area and some of them are particularly hairy. I’m sure they don’t bite… Places of note include: Lyon Industries (fabric manufacturers), DuBois & Co. (a ”legitimate business”) and The Red Cross (blood bank). The Outskirts are the lowest of the low. Very little nightlife, very few jobs, just shabby little houses for people that can’t afford to live closer to the action. Poor them. There are a few vaud rings running around the area though, so maybe keep your eye out for one and your luck will change! Residential area. Races The population of Orlais, and just about any other place in the world for that matter, is comprised of humans, vauds, vampires, werewolves and ghosts. The following includes a short bio on each, their individual traits, and their disposition towards the other races. Humans Traits Disposition Vampires: It’s a widely accepted fact that vamps are real. Since vampires feed on humans, naturally humans aren’t too fond of them. However, vamps are surrounded by a lot of mystery. Nobody’s really sure what’s fact or legend about them, but in general vampires are regarded with fear and hate. Werewolves: A lot of people figure that since vampires exist, werewolves might as well be real, too. Most of the time they look like everyone else, so very few have actually seen a werewolf. Because of this uncertainty, the idea of werewolves is mostly met with doubt or fear. Ghosts: Because of their somewhat elusive nature, practically nobody believes in ghosts. Many have seen ghosts, though, without knowing that’s what it was. Because they’re believed to be fiction, few have an actual opinion on ghosts other than that they’re bullshit. Vauds Five years ago, the practice of voodoo was outlawed in North America. Slowly, but steadily, the government is building a supernatural police force, the S.I.S., but so far the only ones they’ve been able to do something about (and, with the exception of vamps, the only ones they’re certain exist) are the vauds. Get caught practising voodoo and you go to jail. Thus, most vauds practise in secrecy. In Orlais, and well beyond its borders, the vauds answer to the oldest and most powerful vaud, Yolanda. Residing in an unknown location in Orlais, she watches over her spiritual family, and almost every vaud regards her with the utmost respect. Traits Disposition Vampires: Vampires and vauds have one thing in common: the blood. But those damn leeches disgrace the purity of living blood by merely feeding on it. They are an unnatural bridge between the living and the dead, and the world would be better off if they were all wiped out. Vampires are despised greatly. Werewolves: The wolves are tolerated. Many vauds see them as dirty dogs, but in some way they feel a hesintant kinship with them. Werewolves are close to nature, and this connection is hard for the vauds to ignore, so when the wolves show restraint and are in human form, very few vauds have an actual problem with them. Ghosts: Since ghosts are spirits, vauds have some power over them. Generally, they’re not of much interest to them, though; vauds like to concern themselves with the spirits on the other side of the Veil. Some friendships between vauds and ghosts have been recorded—perhaps their mutual appreciation of what’s on the other side of the Veil is the base for these relationships. Vampires Although vampires are largely independent people, their ancient magic causes them to all heed their king or queen. The vampire king of Canada, Richard Rousseau, has ruled fairly (or however fairly a vampire can rule) for nearly three hundred years. Traits Disposition Vauds: They may be able to contact the dead, but they’re still human. Some vampires even like the taste of vaud blood even better. Mostly, though, they’re treated as regular humans. Werewolves: Dirty dogs. Vampires tolerate these abominations because werewolves are willing to do almost anything for them, but not much more. They’re not immortal, they’re hairy and ugly, and most importantly, their blood tastes like crap. Vamps don’t kill werewolves, but they sure ain’t friendly towards them. They’re treated like dogs. Ghosts: Vampires think ghosts are a blatant waste of time. Vampires are all about the carnal pleasures, and since ghosts haven’t got a body, they’re not worth dealing with. Werewolves Social creatures by heart, werewolves often gather in packs, lead by a packmaster (always a man; feminism is for humans!). In the old days packs lived, hunted, and ate together. To preserve the werewolf bloodline, inbreeding wasn’t uncommon. These days, werewolves mostly live by themselves in order to maintain a regular lifestyle, but many still gather every full moon in order to turn together. Traits Disposition Vauds: In large, vauds are treated like humans. Vauds know what the wolves are, and the wolves know what the vauds are, and they both realize the importance of keeping a low profile. Since they both feel a strong connection to nature, wolves have a sort of absentminded respect for vauds. Vampires: Most werewolves are deeply envious of vampires’ immortality. Many werewolves are almost lapdogs to the vamps, often working as bodyguards for them, since they can stand the sunlight. Those who don’t revere the vampires, however, usually despise their appetite for violence. Ghosts: Werewolves have little interest in ghosts, as they, like vampires, primarily concern themselves with what they can see, hear, and feel. No grudges with ‘em or anything. Ghosts Bio Not everybody passes through the Veil to the spirit plane when they die. Some, usually those who’ve died in a state of great anger, fear, love, or another strong emotion, stay on the mortal plane as ghosts. These earthly spirits are often hard to get along with, as many of them are caught in the state they were in at the moment of death. Some, however, manage to rise above emotions. Those who do often choose to live (however paradoxical)on the mortal plane, forming new relationships or revisiting old ones, and in rare cases, a ghost is able to come to terms with the fact that he or she is dead, and is finally able to pass on to the spirit plane. Disposition Humans: A lot of ghosts resent humans to some extent, envious of the life they no longer have. A ghost living in a house with a happy family may even become so jealous that it tries to spoil things for them, and becomes a so-called poltergeist. Not all are so mean, though; ghosts who have let go of their dark emotions have been known to form meaningful relationships with open-minded humans, and some even stay with their loved ones after departing. Vauds: Some ghosts dread vauds, fearing that they will be victims of a horrible spell if they let a vaud near (and in some cases, they wouldn’t be completely wrong). Some ghosts form a bond with a vaud as they might with a regular human, only strengthened by their mutual connection to the spirit world, but most leave them alone, just as the vauds leave them alone. Vampires: Because they were once human, some ghosts still fear vampires. Those who have realized that the vampires no longer pose a threat to them have little concern for them, except perhaps a feeling of contempt. Werewolves: Like with vampires, many ghosts realize that werewolves are no longer a danger to them, and as such leave them be. They’re the supernatural races that ghosts get along with the best, as they have no control over them as vauds do, yet aren’t as cold-blooded as vampires. Close friendships between werewolves and ghosts have been known to form many times throughout the ages. ************ All right, are you still here? Fantastic! We’d be glad to have you. Here are a few quick rules to make sure this is fun for everybody:
************ So, now that you’re up to speed on background and rules, let’s get your character in the works. Here’s the CS: Name: Keep in mind that a 3000 year old vampire won’t be named Jimmy, and consider the possibility that your werewolf might have chosen a name that fits her animalistic nature. Stuff like that. ************ That’s it! We’re looking forward to playing with you. This is the OOC thread, in which all talk that’s not in character will take place (although if you make a slip-up now and then we won’t kill you, just maul you a little). Please post your character sheet in this thread as well. We’ll be waiting for you. |

| Munk | @jaan, I’m digging the modern vampire idea. I’m a little hesitant as to how she got turned, though. Vampires are sort of picky about whom they turn, so she’d have to have been pretty extraordinary in her human life. We’d like you to rethink the bio a bit, but the rest looks fine. Remember height and weight, by the way |

| Jet-Kyo | Name: Severin Wörner I might bring in a second guy who would be a vampire. But turns out due to the parental block on our house computer, I can’t even view this thread unless I’m on his dad’s lap top >< SO hopefully I'll at least be able to post with this guy.

| Kiar | I didn’t play in either of the originals, but this sounds pretty cool. I’ve been looking for something more mature-ish. If it’s all right with you guys, I’ll post a sheet once I see the distribution of characters. I prefer to even roleplays out (like I’ll be a male human, if humans and male characters are in the minority.) |
| January 30, 2012 at 10:59 pm #46168 | |

| Munk | @elexea, @grizzylove, and @jet1kyo – your character sheets are in the second post now. Looking good. @jaan, I’m withholding confirmation on your character for now until you’ve had a chance to look at your bio @kiar: Sounds good. I’m sure we’ll be needing humans and vauds. |

| Munk | Now, if y’all are wondering where the character masterpost went, the answer is here. These WordPress forums may be safe, but they sure are buggy as hell. I think I’ll risk adding characters to the intro post instead :O |

| Munk | All right, I think we’re gonna have to close the RP for new submissions here. @kiar, you’re still welcome to create a character. If you do, that’ll put us somewhere around ten characters. Not bad Everyone else, looking good. I’ll see if I can squeeze you into the masterpost without breaking anything this time. if not, well, we’re still on the first page. That limits the search a bit. |
| January 31, 2012 at 3:40 pm #46556 | |
| Kiar | Cool. Let me know what you think. Name: Alyesha (All-ee-esh-uh) Sallem. |

| February 2, 2012 at 11:46 pm #47971 | |
| Munk | I’m loving how this is a “dark” roleplay, and half the posts in the thread have made me chuckle |
| February 2, 2012 at 11:47 pm #47975 | |
| Captain Mollyanne Sunshine | Oh man, I’m excited! |
| February 2, 2012 at 11:49 pm #47980 | |
| Munk | I’m thinking giant nuclear bomb right in the middle of town. Or maybe not, that would be a waste of a good setting |
| February 2, 2012 at 11:50 pm #47984 | |
| Captain Mollyanne Sunshine | Maybe not nuclear. |
| February 3, 2012 at 12:13 am #48016 | |
| Munk | Christ, you two, get a room! |
| February 3, 2012 at 2:21 pm #48257 | |
| Jaan | Any one want to be the client otherwise it will be a trap set up for Smoke and Jenny |
| February 3, 2012 at 4:30 pm #48284 | |
| Elexea | Jeez, took me long enough to post, didn’t it? |
| February 4, 2012 at 12:46 am #48538 | |
| Moose | Can I have catch up for the story? I am so lost… |
| February 4, 2012 at 3:34 am #48621 | |
| Sheridyn | Um… Diego and Tristan met Elizabeth, and they’ve been walking around and talking. They met Severin, who Elizabeth bought a pistol from and now they’re all talking about the king’s death. Hank is at Alyesha’s shop, in need of some sort of magical service. Jenny and Smoke are on their way to the Industrial District to do some sort of transaction. Howard is on to his next job, killing Elizabeth. And Dupont is on the scene of a Vaud related crime. |
| February 4, 2012 at 10:07 am #48691 | |
| Munk | Jaan, what kind of client did you have in mind? I’m okay with playing a disposable character |
| February 4, 2012 at 11:33 am #48700 | |
| Jaan | Someone powerful in need of something hard to get maybe a vaud who needs something wery special for a big sacrefice or something And later it will turn out that I shouldn’t have given them that stuff because evil shit will start happening. But if you mind playing someone e like that I can just set up a trap for myself. |
| February 5, 2012 at 12:09 am #49023 | |
| Jet-Kyo | ((Since I’m actually able to get on, I’ma make a Vaud so Kiar isn’t the only one lol vaud friend!)) |
| February 5, 2012 at 10:03 pm #49376 | |
| Jet-Kyo | So what’s on the scroll, Jaan? I’m sure it’ll connect Severin and his son somehow due to what you posted, but mind giving me some clues? lol PM me if you have to. |
| February 5, 2012 at 10:37 pm #49395 | |
| Jaan | Writing it up now. |
| February 5, 2012 at 11:00 pm #49406 | |
| Munk | @jet1kyo Someone’s been watching Dexter Character looks good. I’m getting quite a bit of “undercover criminal” vibe from him—perhaps you wanna tone that down a bit IC. Most vauds aren’t exactly serial killers or something like that, their magic is just misunderstood and, well, illegal. Of course, if he’s a serial killer who just so happens to be a vaud as well… No further activity from me tonight. Monday tomorrow, need “sleep” and “rest” etc. |
| February 6, 2012 at 4:13 am #49696 | |
| Jet-Kyo | yeah, I intended to keep it low lol and yeah.. dexter xD |
| February 6, 2012 at 3:05 pm #49757 | |
| Kiar | Haha I’ve watch quite a bit of that recent too. Yay, creepy Vaud friend! |
| February 6, 2012 at 4:12 pm #49761 | |
| Munk | I just started watching it as well, so I caught the reference straight away |
| February 7, 2012 at 3:13 am #50123 | |
| Kiar | Bahaha! I love Hank, he’s such a dork. Sniffing some random powder in a witch’s shop – you should turn him into a newt or something. |
| February 7, 2012 at 12:39 pm #50321 | |
| Munk | I was actually considering leaving that up to you, it being Alyesha’s shop and all. Maybe something less drastic, but I’m up for something that’ll mess him up I’m growing quite fond of Hank as well. He’s very entertaining to play, and he’s got a lot of potential… If he doesn’t end up getting himself killed. Also, just watched the season finale of the first season of Dexter. EXCITING |
| February 7, 2012 at 3:21 pm #50340 | |
| Kiar | Well, since he’s your character I figured you should have a hand in what happens to him – I’ll have to think about it. (Possibilities: a curse [bad luck, death touch], a transfiguration charm [temporary and/or controlled transformation into an animal, such as a cat], possession [by a demon or ghost of some kind; could be temporary], anything else you can come up with.) Yeah, they really know how to do season finales in Dexter. Even if the rest of the season is mediocre, you can always expect an exciting last episode. |
| February 7, 2012 at 3:25 pm #50341 | |
| Munk | I’ll have to watch some more Dexter, then. But there are way too many series I need to watch this year D: New episodes of Walking Dead, new season of True Blood, new season of Skins, new season of Falling Skies… I like bad luck or death touch. Both would be pretty funny—Hank comes in to get rid of his wife’s baby so he can keep living his mediocre life, ends up with a death sentence himself. Poetic justice <3 |
| February 7, 2012 at 3:39 pm #50345 | |
| Kiar | Oh yes, I am looking forward to the next Walking Dead season. Also, since you mentioned it in another thread, I think I’ll have to check out Falling Skies. K, i’ll be on later, so Hank’s curse will be administered then. Or you can do it. |
