| Genevieve | @therearesomewhocallmetim I’m good thanks. |
| January 27, 2012 at 10:54 pm #43881 | |
| Tim | I will endeavour to not start us down a topic as potentially dull as last night’s…I vote that someone else picks a subject |
| January 27, 2012 at 10:55 pm #43883 | |
| Genevieve | Even though I didn’t find last nights topic dull, I have a feeling this is a good idea |
| January 27, 2012 at 10:57 pm #43884 | |
| Tim | Someone think of something…quickly! before I do! |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:00 pm #43887 | |
| Wietske | Hi everyone |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:01 pm #43890 | |
| Wietske | @therearesomewhocallmetim Subject suggestion: is debating for nerds?
|
| January 27, 2012 at 11:03 pm #43892 | |
| Tim | @wietske I’m not sure…It is probably mostly partaken by nerds (or politicians etc.) but I see no reason for it to be restricted to purely nerdy circles…debate is a great way of understanding others and their opinions (also kudos for potentially starting a debate about debate) |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:14 pm #43899 | |
| lunik1 | Oh yeah, I was here. Hello people who arrived. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:15 pm #43900 | |
| Genevieve | I agree with Tim, debating is usually done by nerds but should be done by a wider audience |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:15 pm #43901 | |
| Wietske | @therearesomewhocallmetim Still in the debating mood.. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:17 pm #43903 | |
| Rachael | Sorry I got distracted talking to some guy >.> |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:19 pm #43905 | |
| Tim | @wietske *attempts Spock voice* Fascinating…I like the idea of a debating competition but there isn’t really anything (that I know of) where I am |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:20 pm #43906 | |
| Genevieve | I think that’s one of the problems with living in the UK |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:26 pm #43909 | |
| Wietske | @therearesomewhocallmetim Where are you from? We don’t have a lot either. I’m lucky, because my school is even doing it. In the whole province I live in there where only 20 schools participating. For example there are already 9 high schools in only my town and also community colleges (MBO’s here) are allowed to participate. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:28 pm #43911 | |
| Tim | @wietske The UK…East Anglia to be more precise (the round bit that sticks out of the right hand side near the bottom)…Sort of out in the sticks… |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:29 pm #43912 | |
| Genevieve | @Wietske where are you from? |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:32 pm #43913 | |
| Wietske | @therearesomewhocallmetim But they always say to us they debate a lot in England, Scotland, Ireland and the US. So that’s weird.. @ghughes the Netherlands.. The south to be exactly. I’m from Noord-Brabant. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:32 pm #43914 | |
| lunik1 | @rachael I guess you’re forgiven…. THIS TIME |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:33 pm #43916 | |
| Rachael | @Wietske there are only 3 secondary schools in my town and one is a private school. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:34 pm #43918 | |
| Genevieve | There is 2secondary schools In my town and no debating of any shape or form |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:34 pm #43917 | |
| Rachael | @Lunik1 you were distracted too. I reckon by Lizzie ’cause Lizrin is totally a thing. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:36 pm #43920 | |
| Wietske | There are 9 secondary schools in my town and only one is doing debate and that’s mine.. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:37 pm #43921 | |
| Rachael | The private school does all sorts of crap but debating isn’t one. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:37 pm #43922 | |
| Wietske | @rachael I find private schools so weird. We don’t have them a lot here.. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:39 pm #43924 | |
| Rachael | @Wietske They’re not that common here either. My parents didn’t want to send us there as they believe that school is what you make it it’s not about where you’re taught. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:41 pm #43925 | |
| Genevieve | There are loads of private schools near me, although I have to say I wouldnt want to go to one! |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:44 pm #43927 | |
| Wietske | @rachael private schools here are mostly international schools and there are some schools you can do two years of high school in one year, but apart from these schools I would only know about 2-3 private schools. It matters where you’re taught I think, but it doesn’t matter that much. I have the luck of being able to chose of 5 school (I couldn’t really go to 4 of the 9 schools in my town, because they only teach the lowest school level and if I would do that I would always be bored probably, also it would be stupid to chose that if you can do a higher school level) and I think the place where I go to school really matters to me. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:44 pm #43928 | |
| Rachael | @ghughes the private school in my town has so many fights behind it’s doors. My friend that moved from the private school to where I went to school said that the private was 10 times worse than the public XD |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:44 pm #43929 | |
| Tim | @wietske there is a private school (who select their pupils) very near to my school (which has to take everyone)…we generally beat them in results…I have gone to physics lectures in their theatre on school trips leading to jokes about the proletariat and the bourgeoisie meeting |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:46 pm #43930 | |
| Rachael | @Wietske I had the choice of 3 schools, I chose the one in my town as it was the nearest XD |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:47 pm #43931 | |
| lunik1 | @rachael That time it was Hustle, this time it was Yogscast. Now It’s back to Breaking Bad. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:48 pm #43932 | |
| Rachael | @Lunik1 so you don’t deny that Lizrin is a thing. Rad. Totally shipping it now. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:49 pm #43934 | |
| Wietske | @therearesomewhocallmetim Fun fact: public schools (let’s call them that way) don’t have to take everyone here. I know my school only takes 140 pupils every year nowadays. When I went there it was different. You need to have an advice of your primary school teachers to go to VWO (the kind of school level at my school) and need a score on a test almost everyone makes here in the last year of primary school that needs to be very high. This is for a big part because we have different school levels of course, but it’s also because schools don’t want to get too big and stuff.. |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:52 pm #43938 | |
| lunik1 | @rachael I’m not going to dignify that with a response. …wait |
| January 27, 2012 at 11:53 pm #43941 | |
| Tim | @wietske very interesting! our school has nearly 300 in the lower years and around 2000 pupils overall…it wasn’t intended to have that many but everyone wants to go there (it is a good school I guess) |
