So yesterday John announced via his twitter that the rumors about Fox buying the rights to make the film for TFioS were true. I wanted to know a few different things about other nerdfighter opinions on the possible movie.

First, do you think that it will be actually made? Or will it sit around a movie studio like Looking for Alaska?

Second, who are you thinking could play our amazing main characters, Hazel and Augustus? Dream casting people! I want to see millions of tumblr graphics dedicated to our casts!

Lastly, what changes do you see being made to make this a movie? Sadly, all books turned films come with some changes, what do you think will be changed or taken out?

1. ) I think like any film in hollywood it has about a 30% chance of being made, and I honestly see it being in limited release. I can’t see TFiOS really being mainstream mass releases in every theater across the country.

2.) Dream casting – I want people I have never seen before. If they are “Famous” actors I think it will take away from the realism of the entire thing. Of course Hollywood won’t see it that way. TFiOS is slightly unknown outside of nerdfighteria. It’s going to need so called “star” power. (Which is a huge rant I have about the stupidity of mass movie goers)

3.) I have been adapting the first chapter of TFiOS for about a month. (We film next weekend – Feb 18th) and the first thing to go when I was adapting it was all the internal monologues, most of the dialogue had to be tweaked to sound a bit more natural. It works as a good read but trying to say half of it out-loud is quite difficult. Also I had to change several events around very minor things in the first chapter. But the over all story arch i think would stay. Just the dialogue in general I think would have to be tweaked heavily. Also I had to add a lot of Dialogue for the character of “Patrick” which wasn’t exactly easy.

Those are my thoughts.

(Oh if you want to see what i’m doing with this TFiOs thing. http://www.youtube.com/deadlyloofahfilms)

So yesterday John announced via his twitter that the rumors about Fox buying the rights to make the film for TFioS were true. I wanted to know a few different things about other nerdfighter opinions on the possible movie.

1) I think out of all John’s movies I think that this one has the best chance of being made, just due to its widespread publicity, and amazing reviews. Still there is a pretty big chance that there won’t be a film made considering nothing has come out of the other novels he has sold the film rights to.

2) @deadlyloofah I totally agree that it would be best that the best people to play Hazel and Augustus would be unknowns. Anyone famous I can think of just doesn’t fit, probably because its hard to imagine anyone playing Hazel and Augustus. I think people will go see the movie even without a famous star, its such a good story line I feel like it would appeal to people, as long as it was done right.

3) The whole part about them taking bits out, and shuffling things around is what makes me so nervous about this possible going to film. John did a video on the gaming channel about selling the movie, and it seems that they could basically change anything as long as at heart the same message and themes ring through.

Its such a wonderful novel, and its hard to imagine any film company doing it justice. However I don’t think that selling the rights to this movie came with a lot of thought, and that he wouldn’t have sold them if he didn’t think the film company would make an equally fantastic movie. Part of me really hopes that it won’t become a movie, but then again it might be amazing. So conflicting!!

I wonder how they will address the problems of Gus’s weight when it comes to filming. Presumably whoever plays the part will require some serious weight loss for the sick parts at the end. They may have to film all the “healthy” Gus stuff, take a break in filming and then film the end parts.

Ok guys, just needed to put this out there, I know someone who really wants to get involved in TFiOS the movie: Matthew Lillard. For those who don’t know him, he’s been in a bunch of movies such as Scream, Wing Commander, Summer Catch, Without a Paddle, Scooby Doo (he was Shaggy), and most recently the man with whom George Clooney’s comatose wife cheated in The Descendants. Be it acting or some kind of behind-the-scenes involvement (he makes his directorial debut at SXSW this spring) he is dying to get involved. Thoughts?

I can’t think of anyone to play Augustus but I think Carey Mulligan is as close to my idea of Hazel as possible.
