| Zachary Watson | Hi. This thread is for the expression and discussion (no debating/arguing, just discussing why you feel that way) of your unpopular opinions, whether they’re trivial like “I don’t really like Star Wars all that much” or controversial like “I don’t consider racing or golf to be real sports.” Everyone has unpopular opinions, and sometimes you just need to share how you feel without starting any drama. Starting… Now. I don’t think it’s special when little kids can sing well. That last season of Doctor Who was pretty bad, except for Neil Gaiman’s episode. |

| Jonathan | I dont like the hunger games at all. I think it is pretty much the love triangle of twilight but set it post apocalyptic dystopian society. I felt that instead of focusing on the society that book takes place in, as the series progressed it all just came down to “I love this guy cause hes so aloof and mysterious but I also love this other guy cause hes so nice and caring “. Just a real waste of potential imo |

| Steph | I really, really, REALLY hate Glee. I think the show isn’t really all that special and the only difference between it and other “teen dramas” is the fact that they sing. I actually find most of its fandom even more annoying than the show itself. I’m also really against excessive PDA, but I don’t know if this is especially unpopular. But it’s hard to explain to people that accuse me of being homophobic when I complain about a gay couple making out in public that the reason I’m grossed out isn’t because they’re gay, but it’s because I don’t think it’s appropriate to do those sort of things in public.
|

| Zachary Watson | I agree with the PDA thing. I won’t kiss my girlfriend when people are around. If just friends are around, then yeah its fine, as long as we’re discreet about it and not obnoxious. But making out, and everything further, is annoying when done in public. And I don’t hate Glee, but I do think it’s overrated. The storylines aren’t that strong, the characters are interesting but nothing special, and the die hard fans are usually quite hostile to anyone who doesn’t like it. Also, the writers and producers are total jerks. No respect for the artists whose songs they cover, and they’ve said some very offensive and out-of-line things about anyone who doesn’t let them use their music. Very unprofessional. Ooh, I also very much like scarves, and I don’t like it when I get labelled as feminine for wearing them. |

| Andi N. | I don’t like Princess Bride. I find it to be really slowly paced, I don’t find the ideas like the RASs interesting, or the story, or the set up with the little boy for that matter. I just generally get incredibly bored whenever I watch it, and I’m getting so tired of people yelling at me over it that I’m trying to acquire a taste for it even though I need to force myself to even sit through half of it. I also don’t like Firefly all that much. While I can understand why people WOULD like it, I just really don’t find it to be particularly intriguing. |

| Simen | Let’s see…. -I really like the movie 2012. -I enjoyed the last episode of LOST. -”The Hurt Locker” is REALLY overrated. -Everything can somehow be scientifically explained. (Though not everything needs to be.) |

| dragonpuff | I hate bacon….I don’t like the texture and I don’t like the taste |

| Jennifer | I really like Rebecca Black. I think she’s funny and cute and doesn’t take herself too seriously, and I think she does a really great job of epitomizing the 2010s-era “internet celebrity,” even though I don’t think she’s a very good singer. Although I like the Hunger Games, I don’t generally like dystopian novels or films. Analyzing the problems of alternate-dimension dystopiae seems like a really inefficient way of solving the problems of the real world, and a bit of a wasted effort. Like in “The Cure” or “The Giver,” where everyone is told not to feel emotions and not to create or appreciate art – no one in the real world is saying that, in fact the real world arguably places too much emphasis on emotion and creation, so it doesn’t do us any good to learn that “art and emotion are important, don’t squash them,” which seems to be the message of many dytopian novels. |

| Jason A.G. | I cannot stand Homestuck. I can’t. It overshadows other (and, in my opinion, better) MSPA’s like Problem Sleuth. MSPA is not meant to have some sort of thought-out plot, and attempting to give them one only lowers the quality of the product. More over, the fandom (or, the part I have had the misfortune of encountering) has become the perfect example of a fandumb. The people I know that are fans of Homestuck talk about it *constantly.* If a topic is not about Homestuck, MSPA, or anything related, they will find a way to divert it back to Homestuck. Then, when I say that I don’t particularly care for it, they act like it is physically impossible to dislike their beloved story. And they also ask “Well, then why did you read all of it?” News flash: I didn’t and I’m not going to pretend I did. If the first few chapters of your book do not catch my interest, I am *not* going to suffer through the rest of it (especially if your book is a silly webcomic that is upwards of 2,000-3,000 pages long). They then blame my unwillingness to read the whole thing as to why I do not enjoy it. Sorry, but I am not about to spend countless hours reading countless pages of something I do not even like simply because you told me to. I have more important things to do, like homework, school, and living a (relatively) successful life. The webcomic itself I could live with, but it’s fandumb (note: not the fandom) are among the most inane and vexing of all the fandumbs I have come across save for Twilight. [/tirade] |

| Emily | I think smoking is cool. I know people say “oh so you think cancer is cool then!?” no. I really don’t, my grandfather died from lung cancer. But I mean smoking, the act of smoking, not its consequences or the corporations that make it or anything like that, is cool. Like, when you see Sherlock or other fictional/media types dramatically exhale on a moonlit night, it’s badass. I cant help that I think that, i wouldn’t encourage people to smoke, and i don’,t but society has spent years telling me it’s cool. Nor am i saying this is my only standard of cool. But does anyone else agree? Because i feel like i’m standing alone here. |

| Will | Donna is my favorite companion. Rose is my least favorite. |
| January 3, 2012 at 11:48 pm #11657 | |
| Hutch | I think lots of people feel that way about smoking @alchemisthypatia Advertising exists for a reason, because it works. I think it’s not an uncommon opinion that smoking is something your fictional fantasy version of yourself would do. Its cool, but not worth the consequences of actually dealing with the habit in real life. In general the response when you see someone you care about smoking is to be disturbed, you don’t want them to get hurt, so you want them to stop. But when you see a fictional character (who can’t really be hurt, not in the fantasy) do it, it doesn’t have any cons, only the “cool” factor. |

| Jonathan | While I do love homestuck, I totally understand what you’re saying in some regards. As Hussie himself has said, the kind of MSPA that problslut was will never be able to be recreated on the main site due to his audience. I’m not gonna say the whole thing, but check it out here http://mspaintadventures.com/?viewpage=new However, if you are up for crazy adventures that progress in no set direction I would suggest checking out the mspa forums. They have tons of fan adventures, and a lot of them are much like the original jailbreak/bardquest/problem sleuth etc. As for the fans, I cant get why you think they’re “fandumb”. They just like what they like. As well, you haven’t really said why you dont like it, besides “its not really reader driven”. That doesnt really make it any worse in terms of entertainment value. I can understand you having an opinion before reading it all, its just that I don’t really get what your opinion is |

| Jacob Wolpert | Not exactly unpopular in the communities I usually frequent, but in the American mainstream: I am an anarchist, meaning I oppose both the state and capitalism. As well as all other hierarchical power structures. |
| January 4, 2012 at 1:00 am #11940 | |
| Anna Mae | I find myself believing more and more that originally, socialism was a great and powerful idea. The idea that everyone works, and everyone receives was at the core- and working harder didn’t mean selfishly only helping yourself- it meant helping your country and your neighbors. |
| January 4, 2012 at 2:12 am #12400 | |
| Laura | I don’t like The Princess Bride. I find myself incredibly bored whenever I watch it. The only part I seem to enjoy is whenever Inigo Montoya shows up because I feel like he’s the only character that seems to have dimension. Donna will always be my favorite companion. Rose will always be my least. |
| January 4, 2012 at 2:13 am #12411 | |
| Alec Feldherr | I dislike Doctor Who. I just don’t get it. An alien picks up chicks from Earth to travel to faraway places? I don’t even know |
| January 4, 2012 at 2:44 am #12567 | |
| Haley | I dislike religion. I dislike how many religious people refuse to listen to logic or science. I dislike how many people use it as a weapon aganst others. Like, I feel bad for people who believe in a god, because I feel like they’ve been swindled. (Note, this doesn’t mean I look down upon them, or think I’m superior, or whatever. People have the right to believe whatever they please. It’s just this nagging pity in the back of my mind.) Yup, I know that’s gonna be a controversial one. Also, not a fan of the Princess Bride. I just don’t get it. |
| January 4, 2012 at 2:57 am #12628 | |
| Aaron | I dislike horror movies as a whole – I find that most of them have minimal story and their only entertainment is in the “scare factor,” which I find works better as a situational part of a larger work rather than its own genre. For that matter, outside of the design of a few traps, the Saw films have failed to interest me. Also, Final Fantasy VII is only my fourth favorite in the series – XII ranks higher for me due to (in my opinion) better characters, story and world-building. |
| January 4, 2012 at 3:52 am #12844 | |
| Forest | I will say that I personally find this thread brilliant, and I think it’s a great idea. I believe in a very minimal government, and not just in the ‘I really don’t want to pay these high taxes way’ but in actuality. I don’t think a Federal school system should exist, schools should be private or exist on a state level seeing as public schools don’t do their job very well. For example one of the ideas is that everyone should get equal education regardless of where they live or economic situations. This doesn’t work seeing as people spend large amounts of money to be in ‘good’ school districts, and public schools in poor neighborhoods have bad facilities, and those is good neighborhoods far better facilities, that and we keep pumping more money in them that doesn’t even go to the schools, it goes to the next tier up of administrators or whatever they are, have you seen their buildings? They’re luxurious, far nicer than schools. Aside from that rant, I don’t believe in socialized medicine, or welfare programs, I think depending on the government to be kind and generous is very bad, I’m an active member in my community and help those of whom that have less or are in tight situations, it is not the job of the government to do so, it is our job, as decent human beings, and no, not everyone will be cared for, but that’s impossible, I’ve met far to many people that purposely stay on welfare and avoid getting jobs in order to keep welfare, they feel it’s some sort of right they have, as opposed to what it is, charity, and a gift. Soooo yeah, that’s not popular with most folk. |
| January 4, 2012 at 7:15 am #13323 | |
| Andi N. | @Laura I’m not the only one bored by Princess Bride? YES! ^_^ Always a good feeling to know you’re not alone. |
| January 4, 2012 at 8:44 am #13383 | |
| Arya | I like pirates more than ninjas, which is a surprising minority. Pirates have guns, and pillage islands, and don’t take crap from anyone! |
| January 4, 2012 at 11:20 am #13451 | |
| Molly | @Simen Engebretsen I very, very, very much agree with your last point. Actually, I have never thought about it that way until you put it in those words. |
| January 4, 2012 at 1:16 pm #13528 | |
| Ike | I love the idea of this thread! So, here are mine… It became quite a list xD - I believe communism would be a great system, if not for the egoistic nature of the human race. To come as close as possible, though, I’m a socialist (which isn’t necessarily an unpopular opinion in the Netherlands, but usually is world-wide)
|
| January 4, 2012 at 1:27 pm #13533 | |
| Simon | My probable unpopular opinion is this tread sucks. And there’s my first piece of sarcasm for the new forum. enjoy. But in more seriousness, this thread is a pretty nifty idea. Where I come form, one unpopular opinion of mine is that the people who play sport at the professional level get paid too high quantity’s of money. I also disagree that Final Fantasy VII is the best of them, but I personally wouldn’t put XII over it. I personally say that VIII is my preferred title. But atleast with the people I hang around with these days, we tend to have similar opinions, only differing slightly. |

| Emily Ramsey | I am not a fan of the Harry Potter series. I always found the plot to be very predictable; it took seven books to get to the inevitable defeat of Voldemort by Potter. Harry never seemed like a strong protagonist, either; he just seemed like a last-minute combination of all other story book heroes combined. Lastly, the fans of Harry Potter get extremely defensive when someone says that they don’t like the books or movies. Many of my friends are Potter fans, and they still get surprised when I tell them my opinion of the series. Thank goodness for this forum! It’s a great idea to have people post their opinions without any negative feedback from others. |
| January 4, 2012 at 4:14 pm #13653 | |
| Forest | @Emily Ramsey YES! I’m not the only one? I enjoyed the first three books fine when I was about nine or ten, but by book four I had to put it down because I’d gotten far to annoyed with Harry Potter. He never actually accomplishes anything, everyone around him is giving him all the tools/knowledge he needs to succeed while he’s just sitting around being worthless and moping because his parents he’s never met are dead or something, I don’t know, but you’d think by the third or so time an Evil dark wizard tried to kill you, you’d be a little more focused on your studies of magic to keep yourself from getting brained no? And I completely feel you on the fans thing, sometimes I’ve been treated like I must not like books because I don’t like the series, or that it’s just too mature or ‘hard’ of a read for me. I’ve been reading Godel, Escher, and Bach in my free time, it is far, from to difficult of a read for me, or for a piece of bread for that matter. |
| January 4, 2012 at 4:57 pm #13774 | |
| Paddy | Doctor Who is pretty good, but not incredible. I hated the Hunger Games, except for the bit in the first book when they’re actually in the Hunger Games,. |
| January 4, 2012 at 4:59 pm #13783 | |
| Paddy | Oh and also, I’m not a grammar freak. I don’t care if people don’t use impeccable grammar over the interent. People who correct people’s grammar over facebook annoy me. |
| January 4, 2012 at 5:03 pm #13795 | |
| Samuel | Everything that Paddy said, basically. Although I do love Doctor Who it may be slightly over-rated by some people. And I did enjoy the Hunger Games, but it was weak in places and also probably over-rated. And I too, get annoyed by grammar freaks – especially when its obviously a typo. People think they’re really clever for correcting someones spelling when its just annoying and pointless. |
| January 4, 2012 at 8:23 pm #14246 | |
| Matthew Cole | Abundance of Katherines is actually a BAD book. |
| January 4, 2012 at 9:32 pm #14466 | |
| Adrienne | I hate zombies and I think the popular obsession with them is very tired. |
| January 4, 2012 at 10:01 pm #14541 | |
| Jane | I hate nerd rock. God I finally said it. It’s just all so blah. Music is so important to me, and I realize I’m not a professional musician or anything, but I just can’t get behind a song about quarks or doctor who. It doesn’t mean anything, there’s no poetry to the way the beats and the lyrics are laid out and it’s just not something I can ever get into. I know that if I ever said this to certain people I’d get like, excommunicated from nerd city, but it’s the truth. |
| January 4, 2012 at 10:09 pm #14563 | |
| TheStig | I think there are people who should be “naturally selected”, and that there are genes that we should get rid of. I don’t like Harry Potter or Doctor Who. And professional sports players should make minimum wage, considering they don’t actually work, they play a game for a living. I also think we should have a World War 3 to cut the human population. And vikings can kick a ninja and a pirates ass at the same time while hammered on meade. You should have to take an IQ test and get a certain score to have a certain job, have children and drive. Also, legalize it! Or at least de-criminalize it. Pot, nothing harder. |
| January 4, 2012 at 10:40 pm #14668 | |
| Lauren | I hate both the Muppets and the Smurfs, so I’m pretty sure society hates me. |
| January 4, 2012 at 11:01 pm #14719 | |
| Matt | I am confident that in 5 years some of you, if faced with your opinions posted in this thread, would be hugely embarrassed. |
| January 4, 2012 at 11:04 pm #14724 | |
| Forest | @Matt Well yes, I’m embarrassed about things I thought five years ago (I was eleven after all) and five years from now something or other I now think I’ll probably realize to be horribly wrong, but that isn’t the point of the thread, the point is just to have an outlet for things you think but aren’t allowed to say. |
| January 4, 2012 at 11:06 pm #14727 | |
| QED | @simen I agree, I didn’t think the hurtlocker was particularly impressive at all either. |
| January 4, 2012 at 11:09 pm #14736 | |
| Sarah | I hate Rose from Doctor Who. HATE. |
| January 4, 2012 at 11:18 pm #14759 | |
| Aimee | I really really hate Disney, and most other over-advertised, overrated, and over produced stuff. A lot of people just defend Cinderella and other fairy tales, screaming MY CHILDHOOD!!!, but it’s not okay to instill those morals in children. |
| January 4, 2012 at 11:21 pm #14767 | |
| Aimee | Anime needs to go die. Anyone else agree? |
| January 4, 2012 at 11:33 pm #14802 | |
| Kelsey | I consider myself a fan of a lot of things, but some hardcore fans scare me. For example, I like Harry Potter, but I have some friends who are so obsessed with it that I fear they may have some undiagnosed mental disorders. I also like Doctor Who, but I don’t delude myself into thinking that someday a mad man with a time-and-space-travelling box is going to show up and solve all my problems for me. |
| January 4, 2012 at 11:36 pm #14811 | |
| elferdave | I hate Harry Potter, and all fantasy books. Jeez, I’m gonna get flamed for this or something, but honestly, it just all SUCKS. Wizards? Really? Like, really? and I hate how people get so stupidly insanely passionate about it. “Oh, I’m a Hufflepuff neener neener!” No, you aren’t, you’re a human being. Same to Twilight. @ameliamoriarty hahaha, I thought when you said anime needs to go die, I read Aimee, and I was very frustrated at the very rude person who didn’t like your opinion. And I agree with all of it |
| January 5, 2012 at 12:22 am #14952 | |
| Katie's PsychoBabbling | I think we need to move past 9/11. I’m sorry, but every year we spend and extra hour in school we spen an extra hour listening to the pricipal talk and watching old images from the scene. I think those who have a reason to mourn (dead/injuered fmliy members) have every right to, but the rest of us should be studying. We dont do anything on Peral Harbor Day!! We need to move on and I truthfully feel bad to say this, I know that it was a bad event, but it alienates people who weren’t conected to the event. Don’t hate me! I didn’t like The Lord Of The Rings Star Wars was just ok Harry just got depressing after the third book Cheerleading is not a sport- their is no objective and you train hard just to yell for people playing a game and to jump aroud in reveling skin-tight outfits. I think that just because they are lesibains the girls in the school shouldn’t be alowed to make-out in the hallway- no one else is alowed! Please no one hate me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
| January 5, 2012 at 12:32 am #14970 | |
| TheStig | I don’t like all those “rock” bands like Kings of Leon, RHCP, Coldplay. That’s all pussy shit and they should take their misused guitars and shove them up their asses. If you use an electric guitar, use it right. Also, I hate Van Halen, the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and Def Leppard. They are all over rated. i also miss when Green Day were punks, not whiney emo bitches. American idiot onward was a waste of energy. |
| January 5, 2012 at 12:35 am #14975 | |
| Matt | Exactly! “the point is just to have an outlet for things you think but aren’t allowed to say.” Some people have expressed opinions which could be said to ‘demand the respect of polite society’ – i.e. criticizing them would probably be met with negative views from others. So I criticized them. How meta.
|
| January 5, 2012 at 12:35 am #14976 | |
| TheStig | Oh, yeah. And I like clowns. They scare small children. |
| January 5, 2012 at 1:27 am #15069 | |
| Hannah Victoria | - I really, REALLY don’t like Doctor Who and Merlin There are probably more, but I can’t think of them right now. I’ll check back in later. |
| January 5, 2012 at 2:04 am #15129 | |
| Paige | I really, really dislike Doctor Who. |
| January 5, 2012 at 3:00 am #15232 | |
| Maria | I believe Courtney Love had Kurt Cobain murdered by a man named Eldon Hoke for $50k, and then had him murdered when he told a guy making a documentary called Kurt and Courtney about it. Kurt did not kill himself. I like cigarettes, although that doesn’t mean I smoke, I still like them. A lot. I have never seen all of these Disney princess movies that I was supposed to see when I was five. And no, I have no interest in seeing them now, nor did I then. Old 90′s Nickelodeon was better, and still is. I don’t like Lord of the Rings at all and do not want to hear about it or talk about it at all. Ever. I don’t like a lot of Young Adult literature and I have a lot of issues with it because I never really felt like it reflected any of the experiences I had as a teenager. |
