The Great War is at its center. The Climax. The Trolls, acting as puppet masters, have gotten the Orcs to take over the Elvish woods. Their other territories include the Desert, which is what they share with the Trolls. (I wish I could post a map..) Let me give a brief-ish history so you can understand:

The oldest race is the Etherial Children. They are composed of pure magic, and are able to solidify themselves and walk through walls, kind of like a ghost. Typically, they don’t fight. But after all these years of war, some have chosen sides and used their magic in whichever way. Also what tends to happen, is if they adopt another culture they’re form seems to shift into a mix of a human child with (for example) scales on the sides of their head or arms, claws etc due to being with Dragonians (I’ll get to them).

Elves are the second oldest race, learning to harness magic by befriending the EC’s. They have a Council which consists of 5 members. They decide on laws and statutes for the Elves to live by, the most important of which is the wise use of magic. Not to abuse it. One Elf, Zacarr, attempted a plot to capture an ethereal and absorb its power. He was caught, and Zacarr and his followers (which were many) were banished. –Elves are crazy good with Magic and typical elf stuffs–

Trolls are the banished Elves, cursed and deformed from their Elvish forms to show their power hungry nature. They killed a titan out in the desert, hollowed it out and their city is now the skeleton of the Titan. –Fantastic with Magic and spear type weapons, keep elvish sight and smell, but otherwise nothing, not as strong as elfs—When the Orcs came in to raid their city, Zacarr convinced him that it was a better idea to ally the Orcs and Trolls.

Orcs are the strongest race other then giants, and younger then the Elves. The Orcs and humans came to be on the same shore, and they were at tribal war for years until the Orcs defeated them. The humans fled to the eastern side, threw the desert, avoiding the Trolls. Much later, when the Orcs gathered enough strength, they ran through the desert and came across the Trolls. Some Orcs have strayed away to help the Humans due to disttust of their chief, even if they must be disrespected by some humans –Weak against demonic magic-

Hobgoblins are half Orc, half Troll. They were a slave race until a band of Elvish soldiers freed them from captivity, they now roam around in different areas, sometimes welcomed and other times despised.

Humans are a young race, and when they escaped the Orcs, built up a stronghold city near the mountains, where they met the dwarfs. Humans and Dwarfs get along well, but people frown upon any half dwarf-half humans, as they see them as abominations. Humans don’t typically use magic, science and alchemy seem to be more prominent, though there are some magic users like clarics and warlocks etc. And of course there are lots of fighters, in case the Orcs ever came back. Since the Orcs teamed with the Trolls, there have been several attacks on the Human stronghold. –Typical human stuff–

Dwarfs are nearly as old as Elves, but dislike magic other then Alchemy – and they still consider that a science. They are miners, and it’s what they love to do. They can fight, but that is normally reserved for the Dwarf army or those born into royalty. Their alchemist can also fight. They are also slightly stronger than humans, despite their small size. –Typical Dwarf stuff–

Giants live in the opposite mountains as Dwarfs, on the other side of the Elvish forest. They are typically solitary aside from the rare nomads and mercenaries. But typically they only fight if provoked. These giants are really just crazy buff, crazy tall humans, but not bigger then a one story house big. Giants also don’t use any magic and are good at metal working.

Flarians are rock like humanoids that live below the surface of the earth. They can manipulate rock, metal and magma to an unkown extent and are immune to any kind of weather storm. Only some kinds of magic can hurt them, most of which is only known to EC’s.

Dragonians are people of any race other then troll or Orc that worshiped the dragon Garathos. Garathos blessed his followers with the abilities and looks of a dragon before his passing. Some believe he still lives. Dragonians can breathe fire, Ice, lightning, Acid, or w/e else you can come up with. But only one thing. – Immune to Vampirism and Lycanism–

Vampires were created by the god of death as punishment for the humans. You can contract it as a desease, but there are 7 natural vampires. They all hate each other, but when fighting together are immortal other then holy magic. When not together, the only way to kill them is blessed weaponry, or a werewolf.

Werewolves were created by the godess of nature to fight the vampires. Though just as looked down upon as vampires, due to the disease they carry as well. The 7 natural werewolves had control of their werewolf forms, but when one accidentally bit a loved one it pleaded for their life. The result was essentially a feral werewolf. Some can transform part of the way and maintain control, but it’s rare. Silver bullets and holy magic are their weaknesses.

(yes, you can be w/e race (except dragonian) and have Vampirism or Lycanism)

The factions of this war:
Good – Humans, Dwarfs, Elves (typically), Hobgoblins, Flarians
Bad – Trolls, Orcs, Flarians
Neutral – EC’s, Dragonians, Giants

If you chose to be good: you are on your way to the Human stronghold, or already there.

If you chose to be evil: you are either in the stronghold, or in the desert, preparing your forces.

Neutral folks: do what you want. If you pick a neutral race, pick a side I guess lol

Occupation: Royal Alchemist/Miner

OOC: can we play as one of the natural Vamps/Lycans?

OOC: sounds like someone’s read The Silmarillion. Or at least, that’s the feel I got from reading the setting.
On another note: w00t! I love paragraph entries, and usually have to cut down my responses in other rp’s to fit the standard length. Also, let me know if any part of my character is inaccurate to the species you created, and I will change it.

Character sheet:
Name: Goldoron (no last name)
Age: 48 (pretty young for his species)
Race: Flarian
Physical Description: (I don’t really know what you imagined these to look like, but I’ll take a shot at it.) 6 feet tall while hunched over, with skin the consistency and color of grey rocks. His eyes look to be filled with magma, and his mouth is lit with a similarly orange, internal glow. He wears minimal clothes, usually just extending to a utility belt and bandolier.
Weapons or Armor: His rock/metal/magma manipulation. He also uses these skills to make sorts of hand-held bombs. His rock-skin is pretty much all the armor he needs.
Occupation: Blacksmith
Special Skill?: Nothing that hasn’t been previously mentioned.
Bio: He left his underground colony and moved to the human stronghold to trade his various smithy items. He eventually grew used to being around humans, but rarely involved himself in their affairs. He would be against the war, if it wasn’t for the fact that it meant an increase in his sword and arms production. Though he lives in the stronghold, he still feels more comfortable when underground, or with other Flarian and dwarves.

Age: 108

Race:Flarian

Physical Description: About 6’5, 220 Lb, Skin color like granite with opal eyes. (http://nevaehjewelry.com/wp-content/uploads/Opal.jpg what an opal looks like) the dominate color changes depending on his mood: Red for angred, blue for calm, green for interested, and yellow when excited. Usually wears a flowing metal cloak from which he creates his weaponry.

Weapons or Armor: no armor needed, but his cloak comes in handy. Skilled in hand-to-hand, blade, and pole work, can’t shoot shit with a bow. Creates his weapons by extracting material from his cloak

Occupation: Former soldier, now a librarian.

Special Skill?: Extreamly good at reading people of all races, possible telepath

Bio: a guard from the flavian city, he came to the surface to fight agains the trolls, after years of combat, Kaito left the military and turned his interest to books. Always prepared, he still practices his martial arts everyday before going to the library. Having lived amoung humans and elves since the age 50, He figured out which of their conduct he liked and which he did not. as such, he will often act in a manner of courtesy, though it may seem outdated. Appears almost human, the main giveaway being his eyes, a subject of constant talk among the more literary women. Cursed with Lycanism, his skin counteracts the effectivness of silver bullets, but he still must fear holy water.

Name: Elion Tethras
Age: 27
Race: Giant
Physical Description: Thick straw-like hair, brown eyes, a tan and freckles from working outside all summer, tall and broad, muscular, her hands are callused. Wears a loose white shirt, a leather gilet, cotton trousers, a pair of sturdy work boots and an apron covered in soot.
Weapons or Armor: Elion favours a heavy steel battle axe, of her own design. She also carries a short sword, but doesn’t use it unless it’s a completely dire situation, or she needs to skin a rabbit or something. She prefers leather armour, as it’s easier to move in, but doesn’t fight enough to need it.
Occupation: Blacksmith.
Special Skill?: Aside from the obvious smithing, Elion has an affinity for poison making.
Bio: Elion had always been relatively jovial for a Giant, and hated the solidarity that the rest of her people seemed to crave. When she was 19, she made it her personal business to move into a large city where she would be surrounded by others all the time. She became an apprentice to a local blacksmith, and when he passed on, she was put in charge of his shop.
Other: Has a bit of a temper. Does not like when people question her abilities as a smith.

((this = fantastic))
Gardi’n was busy in the mines, smashing away with his pick-ax. Sweat fell from his forehead and he wiped his brow. He began to clear out an area of the cave, shooing some other people and dwarfs away. He scratched out a transmutation circle with his chisel and placed the appropriate pieces in the center. Steal, gold, and phosphorous. He breathed deeply and placed his hands on the edge of the circle. A few of his tattoos lit up and–

A blast of smoke came out of the cave in the northern side of the mountain, followed by deep excited laughter. A few miners and other people that were on their way to the stronghold turned their attention to the sudden explosion. Out from the smoke stepped a Dwarf that was covered in black dust and dirt, curdling something in his arms. “I’ve done it!” he called, “I, Gardi’n Azak, have created Golden Steal!” Most of the people either laughed or just walked away at this point, seeing as he’d been trying to create the most valuable and strongest metal, just so he could make an Ax for himself. Most people didn’t believe he could do it. Creating Golden-Steal would be like creating a philosopher’s stone, a myth. “Gah!” he scoffed at them, “You fools know nothing.” he walked down the hill, past a few dwarfish soldiers and other miners, few of which patted him on the back.

His head snapped up from the fist sized metal he held, “Elion! Goldoron! I must find them!” he laughed, darting down the hillside.

Weapons or Armor: Carries a longbow with ten arrows, and twin swords Aeris and Aether. Wears leather armor to allow himself complete movement.
Occupation: Hunter/Ranger
Special Skill?: Cannot use traditional magic, can only use magic to increase his own physical traits.

[OOC: Aw a Flarian and a blacksmith? I feel so unoriginal.]

Goldoron was hammering a white-hot sword into place. Examining the edge, he dunked the blade into a bucked of water, and the metal cooled to a glowing yellow. He continued to pound the surface in a steady rhythm – after years of the work, the clamor was almost music to his ears.
He paused for a moment, recalling his first years of learning the practice. In Flarian cities, blacksmiths wrought iron with their bare hands, and bent rock to their will simply by thinking about it. Goldoron stared at the unfinished blade, and the metal twisted upon itself like a wet rag. He blinked and the sword straightened, now cooling to a red hue. Shrugging, he went back to pounding on the sword.
Tricks like that sometimes disturbed humans that passed by, so he usually stuck to more traditional methods of shaping arms. Besides, contorting the metal with his mind would be too easy, and he would finish his work in a fraction of the time. And what would he do with the free time – go out and meet someone new? Goldoron chuckled at the thought, his laugh the sound of grating boulders.

Name: Theosulate, ”Void”
Age: Unknown
Race: Etherial Child
Physical Description: When he manifests himself, Void prefers to present himself as living armor; black plate mail, with gold patterns and designs. A round helm that covers his whole head glows with a pale yellow light from where eyes would normally look out. He chooses not to be too tall normally, as he likes to blend in. When he is in a physical form, he wears a black cloak. There are some legends that name him ”Death”, but he is far from it. The form he takes is one that people do not harass.
Weapons or Armor: A short spear, a blade made from magic, and usually relies of wind or light magic. His armor is his form.
Occupation: None, when appearing, he acts like a soldier (though typically from the wrong era, as he hadn’t been active for many years)
Special Skills: Due to his magical form, he can not have his mind read or manipulated, also immune to diseases
Bio: Theosulate has been around for longer than he care to remember. He has seen a lot of time pass, and the majority of it has been spent hiding away from the world, only rising sometimes when people or things grab his interest. There was a king long ago that Theosulate had helped fight a war and from that, he gained the name ”Void”, as he could walk through walls. Void fashioned his armor to be like the king’s own, and he trained with the king’s men to become a valiant fighter. His fighting abilities are supplemented by the various magics he can wield, though he prefers wind or light. When the king died, Void once again left the world of the living. Until the war started, that is. He found his way back to the surface as a spectator.
Other: When he is in his magical form, any being he touches gets deep chills. He tries to avoid touching people as best as possible. He also makes himself a nondescript human when he is gathering information.

Void had been disturbed by the mining dwarves. Though he was a bit annoyed, he wasn’t going to do anything about it. Instead, he made his way along the halls that the dwarves had cut, drifting just below the surface of the rock, watching people pass. Eventually he settled in the wall, by a forge, to watch a Flarian work metal.

He had always been impressed by them, the Flarians. Something about their rough rock skin made him sometimes rethink his armored form. The great rock golem continued to work the metal, shaping it, chuckling to itself. Some passerby’s shuddered at the sound, but Void found it pleasing. It was a good laugh.

A dwarf, babbling and laughing came bursting around a hall corner. Other dwarves moved out of his way as the dwarf ran towards the Flarian blacksmith yelling something about “Golden-Steal”. Void smiled on the inside, it had been a long time since he had heard that term.

Ceren arrived in the city, a marvel of architecture although not by elven standards. Ceren couldn’t help but feel awe for the city.
“Humans.” He muttered, shaking his head and walking ahead. Looking around, he began trying to find a place to stay, then realized that he likely wouldn’t be able to find one close-by. I’ll wait then… he thought and ended up heading towards the market, where various smiths had forges, and all the merchants had set up shop. He was looking about the shops when a shout caught his ears:
“Gold Steel! I’ve done it!” This should be promising. Ceren smiled a wolfish smile as he headed towards the shout.

Elion’s forehead was coated with a sheen of sweat, as she diligently hammered away at the mishapen shield in front of her. A loyal patron had dropped it by earlier on, and though the sorry article was smashed beyond all recognition, Elion had promised she would try and return it to it’s former glory… for the right price. Her battle axe, lovingly (and privately) referred to as ‘Thea’, leant against the stone wall of her workshop, glinting menacingly in the afternoon light. After a few recent run-ins with hobgoblin thieves passing through town, Elion had taken extra precautions. She’d rather cut somebody’s head off than let them steal from her. It was a matter of pride.

She was disturbed from her work when a rumbling, excited shout tore through the streets. Elion frowned when she recognised the voice. “Gardi’n? What’s he doing now?” Curiosity got the better of her, and she poked her head inside the shop to announce her departure to her apprentince, before leaving, Thea swinging from the strap on her back. “Gardi’n!” She called in her booming voice.

Kaito was returning to his home from the librery when several things caught his attention. The first was a mad dwarf running down the street yelling something about Golden-Steal. The second, and more ominous, was the presence he felt trailing the dwarf, the presence of an EC. Curious, and more than a little worried, he altered his course and followed the EC.

((nice character!))

“ELION!” he called back, laughing in excitement, “I’ve done it! I’ve done it! Look! Look!!” he held up the golden Ore in one hand, letting the light catch it in all of it’s magnificence. He was still drenched in dirt, looking like a small ball of soot holding up a diamond. “Isn’t it wonderful!?” he called up to her. She went to take it from him and he held it to his chest and looked at her like she was insane. He could barely keep himself from dancing! He was overjoyed, “Where is Goldoron? I want the two of you to make me an Axe!” He heard footsteps behind him, and looked over his shoulder, seeing no one but the crowd. He laughed, “I did it!!”

He had a feeling that someone else was there, but he shrugged it off. His sixth sense was horrible, so he was probably just noticing the crowd anyway. “Come, Come!” he called up to Elion, not listening to what she was saying. He did this quite a lot, and was thankful people put up with it, but that didn’t mean he was going to stop. He narrowly avoided people in the crowd, shuffling around, not looking where he was going. Yet, somehow, he obviously knew where he was going.

“Here I am, Gardi’n.” His voice was deep, but quiet; never one to raise his voice (or need to, for that matter.) “Now what is all this dwarfish ruckus? I could hear you from two blocks away.” But an explanation was not needed, for what he held in his hands spoke volumes. Goldoron prodded it with his mind, but it was no metal he could immediately recognize. “That is an interesting rock, you’ve got there,” he said.

Elion laughed too, “Gardi’n, my friend, what in the world are you-” The dwarf’s excited babbling cut her off, so she just shook her head and allowed him to continue. Though Gardi’n was less than half her size, he had the personality and drive of a far taller man, and Elion had come to appreciate his friendship over the past few years. She peered suspiciously at the blob of metal clutched in his hand and then her eyes widened in shock and awe. Is that…? “You… you’ve done it? Is that-? No… it’s a myth.” Elion didn’t dare speak the name, lest someone catch wind and get involved. She reached out a hand to examine the gold steel and rolled her eyes when Gardi’n recoiled. “Gar, I’m not going to steal it from you, you know very well how I feel about thieves.” She grumbled, folding her arms and letting the ore be.

“I imagine he’ll be around his own smithy at this time of day. It doesn’t do for us to associate closely during business hours. Gets a little competitive.” She explained, though Gardi’n's thoughts were clearly already elsewhere. Elion began to follow him through the crowd, towering a good head and shoulders above the tallest person in attendance. “Where are we going? I can’t leave Owain in charge for too long, he’s only young.”

Elion smiled at Goldoron. “Speak of the devil.”

Ocria cut the strings off a strangers coin purse, as she moved to avoid the crowd in the market, sure to make her movements quick and unnoticeable. While a healer at nature, money was the only way to make it in the city. She took a few coins shoving them in her own purse, before slipping the rest into a beggar’s cup. The city rumbled with it’s usual excitement, and today as all other day’s were busy and crowded, the rich making their way through the streets in thick dresses, and jewelry curses radiating of purses that had been stolen from in the past. It was only judgement that kept Ocria from being caught in the act.

With a small sack from the apocthory in hand, the tall elf moved through the stall where she was currently apprenticed, not being trusted by the owner to be a proper healer. With a sigh she placed her hand on the door, before a few quieted yet distinct voices. With this in mind, she dropped the supplies on the porch and knocked the door before moving to an alley to get a closer look at the group making hushed conversation.

“Bless you, madam.” Horg said in an old, fragile tone.
A nice amount of coins had fallen into his cup. His disguise appeared to be working as well here as in any other city. The waiting was killing him, though. How long had it been? 3 hours maybe? Couldn’t be too much longer now. The giant had to leave her shop sooner or later.

An anonymous client had requested that Horg would locate a certain family heirloom of his. A shield. Broken, and not worth any real coin, but it still held some sentimental value.
Through several days of eavesdropping and invastigating, the hobgoblin had located it in the stronghold. Sold to some kind of nobleman. The giant had been the first real obstacle he had faced. The giants were a proud people, and he had witnessed several of his fellows nearly being killed over petty coin in that shop. He was not going to face that axe of hers.

Someone let out a loud shout further down the street. The giant seemed distracted. Could this be his chance?
“Owain? I’m going out for a bit, look after the shop, would you?”
She was leaving. Now there was only the matter of her apprentice.
Horg got up, calmly walked toward the shop, and went inside.

Luckily, this “Owain” seemed far to busy manning the forge to notice the seemingly lod man entering. Horg looked around for anything that looked even remotely shield like. “Aha!”
A hunk of metal laid atop the workbench by the window. That had to be it. He picked up the shield and stuck it behind his knife belt.

He turned around. Owain was still busy. “Easiest thing I’ve ever done.” He thought to himself and left.

Kaito watched the dwarf with his Goldensteal while the Flarian attepmted to pinpoint the source of the disturbance. He could tell the Giant was anxious to return to her shop, probably didn’t like leaving what ever appretices she had alone for too long. At this point, he saw someone he recognized and began to make his way toward Goldoron.

Ocria took note as yet another person came into view and pushed herself even closer to the wall. Watching as the new member inched closer to the group. Her curiosity had yet to be peaked, and she was more then ready to return to the shop for ,however, many hours of mindless potion making she had coming to her. She sighed before turning on her heel. None of them seemed to have any money and the shop was supposed to be on her watch now, and the last thing she wanted to do was lose the only way she could legally make any sort of living. With the alley behind her she ducked into the shop, picked up her bag of supplies, and moved to the back room preparing for yet another day of boredom.

Gardi’n explained that he wanted Goldoron and Elion to work on the metal together. It was, in fact, golden steal. A myth, he had thought before today. Elion had followed the dwarf over to Goldoron’s shop, and he eyed the giant with mild distaste. He had nothing against her personally – they were natural competitors, in their line of work. Normally, he wouldn’t be interested in cooperating with another blackswmith on a project, but in this case…
It was apparent that Gardi’n wasn’t going to let him get a closer look until e agreed to take on the assignment. He glanced again at Elion – she too was eager to work the metal. Eventually, he sighed. “All right, dwarf, I’ll help you with this project,” Goldoron grumbled. “What are your terms?”
Before Gardi’n had a chance to answer, Goldoron caught sight of another Flarian, not usually seen in these parts. Things were shaping up to be a big day – Goldoron usually didn’t get many visitors. Other than customers, of course.

“Something interesting going on over here, young Goldoron? It’s rare to see you and Elion so peaceful within such close proximity” Kaito glanced over at Gardi’n. “And you, little dwarf, need to be more careful with your findings. There are many…..entities…..which would enjoy getting their hands on some Golden-steal.”

Elion resisted the urge to roll her eyes at Goldoron. She knew the competitive nature of their two businesses, but this was important. A chance to work with a material that half the stronghold was convinced was fictional was just too good to pass over and she was more than willing to put the slight animosity between them aside for the length of this project.

She too wondered what the dwarf’s terms would be, and gazed expectantly at him. Elion had already made it quite clear that she was in this for the long haul, but she couldn’t help think about the effect this side project may take on her earnings. She did work by commission, after all. Elion raised an eyebrow at the newly arrived Flarian. “You can see me, right? You’d think with my height I’d be quite easy to see and people wouldn’t talk about me like I’m not even here.” By now she was itching to return to her smithy. She was worried about Owain, who had the irritating tendency to slip into something like a trance while he worked at the forge. Elion supposed that was the problem with apprenticing a skinny dreamy human.

Ceren had kept himself in the crowd, trying to avoid drawing attention to himself. Not so difficult with the spectacle that the dwarf here is making. He walked past the dwarf and his friends, “Congratulations on your findings master dwarf.” Ceren said, nodding as he passed. Truly, if the dwarf had made Gold-steal then he would become famous within a night. But enough of petty distractions, he was here to find the guards and offer his assistance. Nothing more. I cannot afford to let evil continue it’s reign over the elven lands. If these people require no aid, then I will have to leave and fight the monsters back alone. Perhaps it’s better that way- no chance of collateral damage.

Kaito looked over to the Giantess, he could tell something was bothering her and he could easily guess what it was. “No, My lady, not in this situation. Seeing as Goldoron is the one who I know, while you and I have not had the honor of a formal introdution, I felt it more proper to address him first. If i have done you wrong, than I offer my most sincere apologies.” whith this, he offered a courtious bow, presenting a rose he created from his cloak. “Now, don’t you think you should be getting back to your forge? Your apprentice might be dreaming at the forge again.”

“Hmph, well you seem to know me well enough, stranger.” Elion said, not entirely mollified by his excuse. The Flarian knew a lot about her business in the stronghold, but she couldn’t recall meeting him before. Maybe he knew one of her clients? He was right though, she did want to get back to the forge… Elion flushed bright red upon the presentation of the rose, not entirely sure what to do in such a situation and not wishing to appear like an idiot in front of the others. She plucked the flower out of his hand and then cleared her throat, looking a little uncomfortable. “I- yes. I need to get back and check on my apprentice. Gardi’n, you know where I am. Come find me later.”

Elion strode back towards her smithy, only to find a nervous-looking Owain lurking by the door and wringing his hands. “Owain? What are you doing out here? I told you to keep an eye on things. You weren’t out with that girl from the Elven Imports stall again, were you? I don’t think-”
“It’s gone!” The apprentice suddenly blurted, squeezing his eyes shut as if he was expecting to be punched in the face.
“What’s gone?”
“The shield! I was working on the sword commissioned by Mr Rogek, and I turned back and it was gone.”
“Bloody thieves!” Elion thundered, pulling Thea from her back and slamming it into the wooden stump by the door, cutting it practically in half. “How could this have happened? Owain! You were supposed to be watching the shop!” She rubbed a sooty hand over her face and looked distressed. Lord Peth had requested that shield be mended… she was going to get it in the neck.

Upon Not only hearing the noise from the smithy, but actually managing to see a few vials fall from their place and crash to the floor, Ocria decided to see if something had gone wrong. There was never a dull moment in the strong hold and with the threat of war drifting over the horizon tensions were easy to see among the well informed. With a small huff, Ocria untied the apron she had been wearing, and abandoned her station at the cauldron to see what was happening at the smithy.

Her knuckles brushed lightly against the door frame, to give warning before calling out trying to be gentle as to not cause any issue to the obviously angered smith and her apprentice who was know to spend a good hour in her stall without even touching an item. “Good lady! Are you in distress I heard you from the shop, and was curious if perhaps you needed assistance!”

“Cracks me up every time.” Horg said to himself.
He had been sitting on the street with his beggar’s cup watching the burglarized shop. Giant rage was among the more entertaining parts of his job, and though it had not disappointed, it would have been amusing to watch this “Owain” fly a few feet through the air. Oh, well.

Horg still had the mangled shield stuck under his knife belt. Though it was somewhat uncomfortable, a hump on the back of a beggar was something most people did not question. He was about to get up, when he saw an elven woman entering the shop. “Good. Antother distraction” Horg thought, and slipped into a passing crowd.

“Ah yes,” Gardi’n said, “Well easily enough, I’d pay you both handsomely. Or If you wish, when I make more, I can bring you some!” he laughed. He knew he’d have more, as the ingredients were very easy to come by, and now that he knew the circle, he’d be able to recreate it easily. Just as he had started to go over it, Elion went back to her shop and Gardi’n let off a frown. Goldoron started to say something in reply, but Gardi’n stopped him, “Just a moment..” he started to walk threw the crowd and a beggar bumped into him. The beggar went to apologize when the shield slid out from behind his cloak. Gardi’n grabbed the beggar by the back of his collar, realizing the theif didn’t realize it had been dropped. “Elion!!” he called out, “I’ve got your thief!” He tossed the man forward a foot or so, with a little effort. “So, thief, what did you go stealing THIS for?” he looked over the shield a bit before he could answer, “…This doesn’t even look like it’s worth anything! You don’t seem like a very good thief..” As the theif stammored to explain, Gardi’n put a hand on his shoulder after sticking the shield under his arm so that he could still hold his precious metal. A chill ran up Gardi’n's spine and he spun back, seeing no one and growing more annoyed with the feeling of being watched.

Ceren managed to find the guard captain with ease. The man looked like a weathered warrior, and seemed to know what he was doing. He had a very grizzled look and a full beard, wearing standard guard armor, with an officers mark engraved upon it.
“Sir,” Ceren gave a respectful bow, “I bring word from elven lands, which have been overtaken. There is a large chance that your lands will be next, and I’ve come to assist you if you need me.”
The guard captain, called Ironfist by his subordinates, laughed. “The elves have fallen, and you’re here? I thought you all stuck together? I can assure you, we won’t need you here with the guard, but if you really want you can stick around. If hell does in fact break loose, then having an elf around might not be such a bad thing… so long as you’re not one of his.”
Of course Ceren knew that Ironfist was referring to Zacarr, the traitor of his people who’d tried to become a master of all things magical by absorbing an ethereal. Ceren grimaced,
“No, I am not one of his grove. I mean no harm to you, or any of your people. I can assure you of that. I still have one problem though- I have no money, as I was forced to leave quickly due to the attack.” Ironfist grinned.
“Best find some work for yourself then elf.” Ceren walked away, remembering that the market wasn’t safe. I could be a good guard… for now at least. Perhaps I should go look into that place where the shield was stolen. Or perhaps the gold-steal dwarf would like a guardian.
Ceren first made his way over to Elion’s shop first. As always, he first bowed respectfully, as was the elven way. “I couldn’t help but notice that you were stolen from earlier today. I have keen eyes and ears, and am currently without coin. Would you be interested in having someone to watch over your shop so as to avoid that in the future?”
It was a long-shot, Ceren knew, but he had to get pay from somewhere. If this didn’t work, he could always try the dwarf, and if that didn’t then he’d just have to go hunting and sell his quarry when he didn’t use it. Being a lycanthropic elf was a strange balance- usually elves shy away from killing animals and eating meat, but Ceren found it necessary for himself since his affliction took over him.

Elion’s shoulders sagged, and she looked practically on the verge of tears. “Lord Peth is going to kill me.” She took a great pride in her work, and personally thought that when she had finished, the shield would have looked better than ever. And she had been so looking forward to the coin she would have received.

The giantess shook her head at the elf. Elion recognised her as the one Owain liked, from the little apothecary down the street. “Unless you happen to be hiding a metal shield under your shirt, there’s nothing to be done.” She slumped against the wall and dragged a hand over her eyes, suddenly feeling weary.

Upon hearing Gardi’n's shout, Elion bolted out the front door, unsheathing Thea as she went. “Where is he?” She thundered. When she caught sight of the hobgoblin a few feet in front of her, she narrowed her eyes and she strode purposefully towards him. “I’ll cut off your hands! You’ll never steal from me again.” Elion plunged the blade of her axe into the ground, avoiding the hobgoblin by inches. “Where’s the shield? If it has been damaged, I shall cut off your head.” She took the shield from Gardi’n and examined it closely. No extensive problems… I can fix that. Elion eyes flickered over to the male elf that had arrived on the scene and then returned to glaring murderously at the goblin. “I require no assistance in dealing with thieves. Ask me about work later when I’m not about to start breathing fire.” She thought perhaps it would be a good idea to have someone around protecting the forge when she was away. Owain was an excellent smith, but obviously lacking in criminal detection skills. The apprentice was still wringing his hands a few feet away, and quietly pleading with her not to kill the goblin outright.

“Fair enough.” Ceren said turning away, “Should you wish to speak to me, I will be camped outside.” Ceren turned away, but the dwarf from earlier caught his eye before he began walking away. “You… You’re the one who made the gold-steal, yes?” Ceren awaited the dwarf’s reply eagerly. Just to see such a treasure would be good enough for him, but he was a foreigner here, and also wouldn’t expect much sympathy from a dwarf- their kinds did not always see eye to eye.

“How had he known? Horg thought to himself, surprised and confused. The dwarf did not seem to have been informed of the theft, and the costume was without flaw. The only thing that could have tipped him off would be-
The axe dropping not inches from Horg’s feet had cut his train of thought short. The Giant. This was not good.

He knew attempting to explain the matter would be a waste of energy. She’d probably heard it all before. He could only wish she would calm down before doing anything that would hurt.
“N-now, let’s not do anything we’ll regret, shall we?”
His peaceful request was swiftly met with flaming giant eyes of murderous rage.
His many years in this line of work had thought him nothing of not knowing when to keep your mouth shut, and so he did.

“Hm,” Goldoron said with interest. As his species did not require the usual sustenance to survive, coinage was never as valuable to him. Most of his clients paid in information, or rare metals – and gold-steal would be a rare metal indeed. Working with the giant would be troublesome, but for a bit of the metal, he was sure he could put his differences aside. Just as he was about to accept, Gardi’n interrupted him – “Just a moment,” – and went chasing after a storming Elion. He thought he caught the term “theif” somewhere, and frowned in distaste. He considered following the group, but his own smithy held him back.
“No sense in letting them steal from two smithies in one day,” Goldoron said to himself. Goldoron usually hated leaving his smithy, but a rare bout of curiosity got the best of him, so he closed up shop and bolted the doors and windows with a lock of his own design. The front of his smithy was an open shop, so nothing could be done for that, but he doubted anyone would pocket a furnace or anvil in the time he was gone. He snapped his fingers and performed a bit of subtle rock magic, leaving a film of fine dust over the ground about his shop. At the very least, he could tell if someone had been there in his absence.
He straightened a bit, so his head peaked over the top of the crowd, and started off in the direction of Elion’s shop.

“One moment, Elf,” Gardi’n said, not even looking in his direction. He watched the seen of Elion’s rage spill out on the Hobgoblin.. but he had a feeling. Hobgoblins weren’t always trustworthy, but there was something about this one. Maybe he’d be useful later. “As Elion raised her Ax once more, Gardi’n put his hand out, “Wait!” Before Elion could come back with a rage filled reply, “Listen! I have a feeling there’s more to this theft then you think. Granted, that doesn’t justify his theft. But I’m sure you’ll come up with something,” as the Hobgoblin began to smile a little he started again, “And even if it doesn’t, there’s no need to execute him publicly.” The elf was about to speak, “Wait,” he said as he turned to Goldoron, “So, do you accept?” He held the metal carefully and chuckled with delight as the Elf waited. He debated even talking to him, as for some reason Elves always found something bad to say about the dwarfs. Their customs are different, and sometimes things are taken in offense when they aren’t meant to be. He heard his request to see the metal, and he held it closer, “What exactly do you need to see it for?” He didn’t mean to sound suspicious because he was an elf, only because of how rare and precious the metal was. No one was stealing it on Gardi’n's watch.

“Just to see it of course. A legend in real life it is.” Ceren examined the stone closely, “I also have the same offer to you that I did to the smith that was burgled earlier. I’m alone here, and have no money. I’m looking for work.” Ceren tried to read into the dwarf, but as per usual he could tell nothing from them. Humans were open books, Elves could be read with effort and the right questions, but dwarves? Good luck ever trying to figure out what was going on in their heads. “I know you’ve no reason to trust an elf, especially since you just found a legend. I expect nothing from you, given our races… differences. I am known as Ceren.”
To befriend a dwarf… How odd his people would see him as! Ceren almost laughed at himself, but stopped. The dwarf, he thought, may believe Ceren to be laughing at him.
