Dear nerdfighters,

I need your help. I’m taking a class on new media and its impact on society, and I get to write a term paper on basically anything I choose, so long as it relates to new media… and its impact on society…

I’ve decided to use Nerdfighteria as a case study. My paper topic will most likely have something to do with fan culture/online participation/user-generated content and how new media is changing our relationship with old/traditional media (like books and videos/films).

What should the title of my paper be?

I have some ideas rolling around in my head (e.g., “Nerdfighteria: How to build an online culture of awesome”), but I’m not really impressed. This is a key opportunity to inject Nerdfighteria and awesomeness into higher education, and I do not wish to squander it.

Your thoughts, humor, and wit are appreciated.

Sincerely,
Tiffany

Try not to be too witty. Good papers have concise and clear titles. What’s the thesis of your paper? Try to explain the point you are making in the title, that gives people a good clue as to what your paper will be about. ;) For example: If you point out that the medium of video blogs can be used to form communities within society with a distinct subculture, then the title might be: ‘The forming of internet-subcultures.’ with as subtitle: ‘A case study on Nerdfightaria’ Remember, your paper has a point that you illustrate with Nerdfighters, not the other way around.

I’m with Lyida, your paper has to be objective I suppose?
You have to write it like you’re not a nerdfighter. So I don’t think inside memes/jokes are good to put in a title.
