| Tom | There seems to be a lot of girls in yourpants (so wrong), why? |
| February 7, 2012 at 9:46 pm #50467 | |
| Alex McMillan | Because I’m just that sexy. (Or, because girls also like Vlogbrothers, just a hunch…) |
| February 7, 2012 at 9:48 pm #50469 | |
| J.Merrill | Because the vast majority of nerdfighters are girls? It likely has something to do with the fact that girls are more likely to read YA fiction and thus read John’s books. (Nerdy teenage boys tend to read the fantasy / sci-fi books instead. You know like novelizations of video games etc.) Also nerdfighteria has a very big presence on tumblr (another predominately female medium). But yeah. There’s a reason nerdfighteria love The Doctor so much — because nerdy girls tend to love The Doctor, and nerdfighters tend to be nerdy girls. Awesome, smart, nerdy girls. |

| Alex McMillan | I feel this is a dangerous conversation we’re wading into. |

| Asad | Gah, you’re right! We need more masculine things in yourpants! We need guns, tanks, robots, and of course, my little pony. More ponies firing guns, riding tanks, and thumb wrestling robots! Someone vector this, now! |

| Becky | Don’t mind me, just infiltrating this thread with a little of that estrogen… Male youtubers in general tend to have more female viewers. Even the married males.
|

| Allibeth | Most of the YouTubers I watch are male, I’m female. I am not convinced it is about John Green’s books. I have not even read one of his books. Although, I could be completely wrong in this. I have always liked things that boys were into. Like robots. When I first got into nerdy things, I was the only girl. D&D, computer games, etc. I’m glad that there are a lot more nerdy girls now. At the same time, I would like to see more guys in yourpants. hehe. I just tend to get along better with guys, or other girls who get along better with guys. |

| Adam Gulyas | It’s a nice break from the Facility of Engineering (filtering frequencies, anyone?). The ratio is reversed there. |

| Will | Well clearly there is an abundance of Katherines, and Katherine is a girl’s name. |

| Benjamin | I personally find a website full of awesome, intelligent nerdy teenage girls to be a gift from above. |
| February 11, 2012 at 3:46 am #52136 | |
| Sen | I wish therewere more boys so that I’d have a higher chance of nerdfighter-like as a straight girl. |
| February 11, 2012 at 3:53 am #52143 | |
| Gillvinyeta | @Sen |
| February 11, 2012 at 4:03 am #52151 | |
| Becky | @pruechelan I know what you mean. At least in the nerdfighterlike department, I feel like straight boys have the advantage because there are just SO MANY GIRLS. Market oversaturation XD And if ponies in tanks shooting at robots is the way to do that, who am I to argue? …Actually I might like to see that because it sounds pretty cool to witness. |
| February 11, 2012 at 4:11 am #52158 | |
| Sen | @Gillvinyeta I see you also can’t figure out the reply system, anyway yes yes you do but everyone can use the chloroform one. @Becky Absoloutley! Let’s do it! We need a campaign! |
| February 11, 2012 at 4:31 am #52165 | |
| Jamie | This is just my own opinion but I think the reason why there are more girls on your pants is that girls just want to find people who have similar interests, and have more of drive to find people who will relate to them. Maybe that’s why there are more nerdfigher girls than guys, but I could be wrong… @Sen I know me too. |
| February 11, 2012 at 9:31 am #52183 | |
| Allibeth | @Jamie This is very true. |
| February 12, 2012 at 3:43 am #52497 | |
| Victor | I always thought that maybe girls are more likely to watch vloggers while on YouTube, while guys are more likely to watch other things on YouTube (like videogame commentary’s). |
| February 12, 2012 at 4:30 am #52514 | |
| Royce | I kinda feel like John’s books and other Young Adult books are marketed a bit towards girls because there is this misconception about boys liking guns, violence, car crashes etc. (though as a boy I still love those things) which is a bit of shame because I notice things in John’s books written from a guys perspective (obviously) that would appeal particularly to us males. |

| Munk | I read something here on Your Pants (I think) about John and Hank gradually picking their own audience. It made a lot of sense to me. It was something like: In the early days of the vlogbrothers, when Hank and John hadn’t yet found their ‘style’, a great part of their audience was the teenage girl segment. Whether on purpose or subconsciously, the brothers started catering more to their main audience (and really, who can blame them?), in turn attracting even more teenage girls. Also, at least in my experience, many guys are hesitant to call themselves nerds because of the social stigma associated with it. I’ll hear my male friends use terms like ‘gamer’ about themselves much more often than ‘nerd’. |

| Tom | Some interesting replies everyone, thanks for sharing btw I am a nerd. P.S. JOIN OR DIE: http://yourpants.org/groups/guns-tanks-robots-and-of-course-my-little-pony/ |

| Abreo | The only place in Nerdfighteria that I’ve managed to find dominated by men is the debate section on the ning. I guess more girls might comment on there but the people who stick around tend to be guys. |
| February 27, 2012 at 8:23 pm #60383 | |
| Lisa | i think girls are just more willing to be openly “nerdy” — or as john put it, enthusiastic about the existence of things. if a girl came up to me and went “hey, i like pokemon!” i’d definitely just be like “ahahah, that’s great, have you seen doctor who?” but if a guy did the same thing, i’d definitely evaluate his appearance and try to decide why he was telling me this. and while i would probably go on to bring up doctor who, because i have no idea what i could bring to a discussion of pokemon, there would still be that immediate “why are you doing this” that i wouldn’t have with another girl. i don’t know if that is even relevant, but there you have it. xD also i am not as sexist as this makes me seem. |

| Arya | http://gyazo.com/568937c976fdeefd9a387f8a6642989d these are the statistics for every vlogbrothers video ever (except the goat sex ones) |

| Kyle | I’d like to think it has something to do with the fact that Hank is apparently like a sexy uncle. |
| March 5, 2012 at 7:25 pm #63141 | |
| Charcoal Athene~ | I think it might be because us girls are more likely to force our interests, or at least bring them up, onto the rest of our social group, while boys sometimes tend to like their internet interests in the dark. This could be totally off, I go to a private school with a weird social order, heheh… |
| March 5, 2012 at 9:41 pm #63200 | |
| Harry | @ferntailwp I agree with that, I know I’ve tried to keep the fact I make YouTube videos and am a nerdfighter etc from my IRL social group, needless to say, to little avail. Not because Im embarrassed about it – I’m not – but just because it’s nice to be able to have that distance between the two. |
| March 6, 2012 at 4:29 pm #63524 | |
| Charcoal Athene~ | @kaleidochord That’s true, it’s actually “cool” to be nerdy in the girl world, although most of the people who think that are people pretending to be nerdy… Like hipster glasses were once considered nerd glasses and Hello Kitty often adorns the phrase “Nerds Rule” beneath her face. |
| March 6, 2012 at 5:23 pm #63531 | |
| Genevieve | I have to say I disagree, real nerd girls are not considered “cool”! |
| March 6, 2012 at 5:47 pm #63540 | |
| Charcoal Athene~ | @ghughes Well, yes, the real ones aren’t considered cool, but it’s easier for them to be open about it because to be a fake ones is, and sometimes they’re hard to differentiate. I don’t know if I’m wording this right… |
| March 6, 2012 at 5:50 pm #63542 | |
| Samantha | Agreement with Genevieve. Real nerd girls are the farthest thing from the stereotypical high school “cool” factor as it can get. |
| March 7, 2012 at 6:03 pm #63901 | |
| Genevieve | @ferntailwp Real nerd girls are not hard to differentiate with the fake ones they are absolutely completly different. By the fact that some girls like to dress up at “nerds” its i almost making true nerd girls even less “cool” than we already are! |
| March 9, 2012 at 2:13 am #64326 | |
| Marty | Funny how the real nerd girls can be so far away from stereotypical coolness while actually being so much cooler. |
| March 10, 2012 at 4:14 am #64838 | |
| Benjamin | Wow… Even this thread was completely overthrown with estrogen. |

| Chris | Ironic isn’t it? |
| April 10, 2012 at 12:43 am #77716 | |
| Daniel | Palpably. Generally I don’t have a problem with the female:male ratio, although it does mean that if I find an awesome collab channels, it’s probably got some teenage girls who are around 3 years younger than me in it. And then it’s weird to be subscribed. But if it’s awesome then I want to subscribe just for the awesome (these are rare, but exist.) Ah, First World Problems, how I am vexed by thee. |
| April 12, 2012 at 1:24 am #78506 | |
| Jacob | Well, there aren’t as many guys who are really mature enough to watch john or hank, or even care for their videos. |
| April 14, 2012 at 6:17 pm #79253 | |
| Bram | Maybe being a nerdfighter is not about the difference in hormones (or what’s in our pants), but about how we are alike? edit: not hating on any dads here! I’m talking about “bad” stereotypes.

| Menno | From my experience girls are more likely to mingle on communities. A typical gaming forum usually isn’t about what’s on your mind, but more about direct questions. Communities like Your Pants is a place where people have to talk outside the subject (Vlogbrothers) or else there wouldn’t be that much to talk about it. When was the last time you saw a boy willing to commit to a community.

| Daniel | @glluttony When I signed up! But seriously, I agree. Also, it may come down to the attempts for Alpha-Maledom or possibly some odd form of mating rituals, but the degradation of others happens a lot in Male-based communities. Sure it happens in female communities as well, a lot, but I think it’s more openly accepted in mostly male communities. Whereas these essential aspects not only of Nerdom but also of Nerdfighteria stop the sort of focus and growth where the advancement of ourselves as indviuals comes first. I guess it’s why we are a Level 3/4 Tribe, and hence fights for Alpha-Maledom won’t happen. Or maybe I’m talking out of my backside. That may the case, but I’m thinking out loud (: |
