It is the year 2086, and you are the one of a few survivors from a zombie infection and invasion.

A few years back a vaccine/cure for the common cold had been developed and distributed throughout the entire world. Everyone flocked to get the vaccine, except those who were skeptical of its miraculous wonders. A few weeks after the initial vaccine treatment, something went haywire in human DNA of those who had been vaccinated, and most died from the DNA problem. Scientists of the vaccine were baffled and went back into their labs to see what the reason was for such a mass medical holocaust, sealing themselves from the outside world. But the outside just got dangerous.

Bodies of the dead rose, the DNA of the deceased humans changed and “reactivated”. Many who still lived fled from the major cities and towns to escape the invasion of the living dead, but most would die and be reborn themselves and infect the smaller towns and villages. Except the little township of Nomi, a small town in a secluded part of Oregon, that rejected the vaccine and at first word of zombies built a fortress around the town, and started stockpiling weapons.

That is where you are now, and for the time being, are safe. Until the zombies come out to play…

Welcome to Nomi! We are glad you survived and came to help our little fort stay a safe haven for those who still have a mind of their own! Not that we are implying those damn zombies are being controlled by an external force… but anyways I am the Governor R. the leader of this fort. Now, if you would be so kind to fill out this form, we can then set you to work. We are growing nation after all.

Height:5″5
Previous Occupation: Assistant editor
City You Escaped: Toronto, Canada
Skills: Thinks quickly under pressure. Also often seduces people into letting her get away with mischief. Learned quickly how to use a gun and knows a tiny bit of karate as an instructor came to her high school for a week for a workshop. She started in med school, but quickly found that it wasn’t her thing.
Weapon: Pistol, pickup truck that she picked up- she considers it pretty damn good for running over zombies, therefore, her preferred weapon.
Background: Before the infection, Lola was sleeping with her boss to try to get promoted, though before she succeeded, the infection took over. Lola’s Spanish mother had always been against vaccinations and medicine in general, so it seemed natural not to take the new drug. As soon as the freakish effects started happening to all she knew, Lola knew by watching enough television that she needed to get the fuck out. She grabbed a truck, some provisions and a gun she’d stolen and headed down to Nomi.
Other: Is pissed that there’s no one around to make crepes anymore. She loved crepes.

Name: Stacey Nieves
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Appearance: Click me
Stacey weighs around 175 pounds, and like many others in this new world, his body’s been toughened. He’s lean, bordering on thin, and his arms bear several scars. The largest, an ugly pink one, snakes down from his left shoulder to his elbow, showing a little bit above the neckline of his shirt. He wears brown mountain boots, a pair of old bluejeans that have been patched here and there, and a tough, worn leather jacket over a white (well, originally it was white) t-shirt.
Height: 6’1”
Previous Occupation: Short-order cook
City You Escaped: Missoula, MT
Skills: Cooking (duh), rugged good looks, can throw a good punch. He knows a little bit about a lot of things.
Weapon: A red crowbar
Background: A three-time college dropout, Stacey was never good at staying in one place for a long time. He’d travel from town to town, doing whatever work he could get until he felt the call of the road again. He’d done everything from mechanic work to run of the mill office slavery (that one lasted five days, then he was gone), but at a diner in Castle Rock, Maine, he discovered his talent for cooking. Since then he’d mostly work as a short-order cook whenever he could. He worked well under pressure in the busy hours, and he had no problem standing the greasy fumes in the kitchen. He liked cooking, and for once he’d found something he was actually good at.

Considering he didn’t pay taxes, and records still showed he was living with his parents back in Chicago, he couldn’t exactly waltz on down to his doctor to get the infamous vaccine. Pretty much everyone else in Missoula took the offer. When the dead people started coming back to life (among them were Jen, the owner of the diner he worked at), he didn’t think for long. He stole a truck and got the fuck outta Dodge. He didn’t get far, though—the roads were completely blocked. So like many others, he started walkin’. He saw a lot of messed up shit on the way, but he stayed out of trouble. He’d break into houses to get a few hours of uneasy sleep, then keep walking. He joined a group of survivors for a week or two, but a surprise attack from a pack of zombies broke them up, and he was back on his own. This went on for ages, and although it was lonely, he did find some comfort in walking the highways of America.

Maybe he saw some helpful graffiti, or he heard it on a radio broadcast, or by word of mouth or whatever, but he did hear about Nomi. At this point he was in Oregon anyway, so he headed south and soon found himself in front of the walled town. It was worth checking out, anyway.
Other: Cigarettes are a rare commodity these days, but when he gets his hands on a pack he smokes like a goddamn chimney.

Name: Lora Muir
Gender: female
Age: 24
Appearance: Lora’s long, wavy hair is in desperate need of a trim. She usually ties the brown locks back or braids it to keep them out of the way. Her once short fringe has grown out, nearly covering her olive green eyes. Lora is small and mousy and is in no way intimidating, but she’s much stronger than she looks.
Height: 5’2″
Previous Occupation: assistant curator, urban explorer (not really a job, but what the heck)
City You Escaped: Raleigh, NC
Skills: has experience with a gun, keen hearing, able to sleep anywhere
Weapon: anything that’s lying around. She’ll pick up baseball bats and crowbars and the like and bash in zombie skulls until they break. Lora keeps the pistol she stole from a zombified police officer close and only uses it in dire situations.
Background: Lora was exploring an abandoned farm when the dead began rising. She’d only been in solitude for a total of 3 hours. When she drove back to thank the owner for allowing her to take a few pictures, he wasn’t there to greet her. Instead, Lora found the door open and the zombified owner feasting upon his daughter. She doesn’t remember how she managed to escape. It was pure dumb luck. But she got into her car and got away from North Carolina as fast as she could. Lora didn’t bother to contact her parents or attempt to save them- they were most likely already dead or about to be. She drove as far as her car could go, passing cities that had become ghost towns almost over night. Lora heard about Nomi from a group she had been travelling with after her car ran out of gas in the middle of the highway. She didn’t bother to save them when zombies attacked them either. It was every man for himself and Lora just ran until she found salvation.

Lola clutched her pistol tightly, more out of habit than anything else. She knew there was no real danger here as no one around her appeared to be a flesh-eating zombie. That was a nice change.

Lora sat away from the rest of the crowd, but not far away enough to draw attention to herself. Around her were small clusters of people who didn’t care to speak to her and that’s just the way she liked it. Lora didn’t want to have to make alliances with others and didn’t expect to be able to trust any of the others, but she didn’t want to be singled out either. She figured, as long as it looked like she belonged, no one would bother her and for the past 24 years, it’s been an effective method for her.

Katherine took a seat in the middle. She sat straight, observing everyone around her with narrowed eyes. She took in various wounds and scars, a habit which got fairly annoying after awhile. She couldn’t relax. It was too quiet. Just like the abandoned towns and cities she had passed through to get here.

Sarah looked around as more and more people filed in. So many of them looked anxious and uncomfortable. They must have had it worse than her, probably did more fighting. Some memories started to cloud her mind. She shook her head, refusing to go back to those times. She needed to stay in the present and to be positive.

OOC: Sweet. Also, question: how long are we starting after the initial break-out / the fall of civilization?

Name: Chris Muldoon
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Appearance: Hazel eyes. A little short, but well built (from weeks(?) of fighting, running and surviving.) Short brown hair. Utilitarian clothes.
Height: 5’ 8’’
Previous Occupation: Was studying to be an aerospace engineer before all hell broke loose. Now that profession’s not much use; but he uses his brief engineering knowledge to tinker with what little still-working electronics he can get his hands on.
City You Escaped: Denver, CO
Skills: See Previous Occupation.
Weapon: a three foot long, construction-styled rubber mallet. Though it has little agility, its heavy weight allows one well aimed swing to take a head off. And a multi-tool pocket-knife. Just in case.
Background: He was an out of state student, so he lost contact with his family immediately. Hoping they had headed to the safe zone, he went North through Wyoming (cause honestly, who lives there?) then cut across Idaho to get to Nomi. Using various methods of transportation, it took him a few weeks to make it to the safe haven.
Other: Walks with a slight limp, and often holds his mallet upside-down to use as a cane.

“When is this thing going to start?” Lola muttered to herself. She’d never been a patient person. Lola scanned the crowd, there were 6 people other than herself all waiting in the auditorium. She wondered what their stories were. None of them seemed to know each other which gave her the impression that they, like her, had come on their own. Lola sighed, not bothering to stifle her impatience.

OOC: Well, the intro post said the vaccine was distributed a few years back. I’m fine with either.

Stacey sat awkwardly in his chair. He looked around. After all this time, there were still people coming here? Where the hell did they all come from?

Then again, Stacey himself had been out there since the Outbreak, and even in the days before he got to Nomi he’d seen people. Most of them just passed him on the road, keeping their heads down and pretending like they hadn’t seen him. Perhaps it was easier for them that way.

With his right foot he checked to see if his backpack was still there. Of course it was, but old habits die hard—out there, people were less squeamish about stealing.

In front of him, a young man with orange hair leaned back, clutching a wooden sword. Stacey leaned forward and tapped him on the shoulder.

“You, uh, you as weirded out as I am?”

Stacey grinned harshly. “I’m Stacey. Yeah, I know what you mean. I keep feeling for my crowbar and expecting a Z to creep up on me. Hell, I see at least one other person in here who’s got her gun out. Can’t say I blame her.”

Seeing a gun was rare these days. In the weeks after the Outbreak it seemed like everyone carried a gun, but as the months passed he saw fewer and fewer. Probably ammo ran out, or the guns were just lying around where someone’d left it after being turned.

He leaned back. Cooking might be appreciated, provided there were enough resources for it. He wasn’t too crazy about the “from each according to his ability” mentality though.
